Chuckling, I pull her closer as our final song starts to play.

Our friends and family pile onto the dance floor with us.

Ava smiles as she sways by herself, a glass of champagne in her hand.

Camila grins as she coerces Ruben into a dance.

It’s not going to be long until the two of them are arguing with each other in the middle of our wedding.

Zoe seems to be thinking the same thing as she gives me a knowing look. “You know, we might have to bury a body tonight.”

“Camila isn’t going to do anything. Not when she’s training to lead the cartel now. She needs to show everyone she is capable of being a good leader even though we all know she’s going to be a great one.”

Zoe nods and looks over at Ava. “I still wish that Aves wasn’t leaving in a few days.”

“She’s happy.”

“I’m going to miss her when she’s gone. It was a good thing we pushed this wedding forward, or I’m not sure she’d be here.”

“Zoe, your sister wouldn’t miss our wedding for the world.” I kiss the tip of her nose as we spin beneath the twinkling lights draped beneath the trees.

The soft sound of waves crashing against the shore blends with the music as the final song comes to an end.

Zoe sighs and looks up at me with tears shining in her eyes.

Tendrils of her hair hang down around her face.

I wrap one of those tendrils around my finger and give it a slight tug. “Don’t look so sad, Zoe. It’s not over yet. We still have one more private dance. Just the two of us before we take off for the airport.”

Her entire face lights up as I lead her away from the party and into the line of trees.

We keep walking until I find the little clearing lined with wildflowers.

Dimly glowing lanterns hang in the trees and a speaker sits to the side.

I pull out my phone and select the song she wrote about us.

“May I have this dance?” I ask, a teasing smile on my face as I bow low and hold out my hand.

Zoe laughs, tears welling in her eyes again as she slips her hand in mine. “Only if you promise to love me forever.”

“Zoe, time itself could come to an end, and I would still keep on loving you.”

I pull her to me, and she leans her head on my shoulder.

The familiar scent of her perfume envelopes me as we sway together to the soft melody.

She hums along with the song as I hold her tight.

This is the wedding that I should have given her. Right here on the beach that brings us closer together every time we visit, with the people we care most about in the world.

It’s the place where I first told her I loved her. Where I realized that life was more than being a monster.

The beach at the lake is the place where I figured out what it meant to love someone with my entire being.

Zoe brought me back to being human. She changed my life for the better, even after I gave her every reason not to.

Though she could have given up on me at any point, she didn’t.
