He’s already proven that he can get to me if he wants to. There’s no doubt in my mind that he can overpower me if he wants to.

The best option I have is going along with what he wants and hoping that my family notices I’m missing a soon as possible.

“If you keep moving like that when you’re under me, there isn’t going to be any getting up.” Christian makes a point of shifting, moving some of his weight off me. “You’ll be begging for it.”

“Screw you.” I glare at him, wondering how much he would have to move for me to be able to drive my knee into his balls. “I said I would go with you. Now get off me.”

I have no idea what is happening, but talking back to him is just as easy as it is with Ava.

I'm so glad that I'm finding my inner strength. At least I hope that's what this is.

Well, regardless, I'm fighting back somehow.

He gets off me and holds out a hand.

Scowling, I smack his hand away from me and drag myself out of the warm blankets.

Christian’s low groan when he sees the tiny black silk nightie I’m wearing sends panic coursing through me.

There is no way this is happening. This is just a dream. It’s not happening.

Am I ever going to see my family again?

I want to ask him, but I don’t think I’ll get the answer I want.

My hands are shaking as I try to focus on staying alive for now.

“Where are we going?” I ask, proud when my voice doesn’t waver. “Why me?”

“That’s my business. Now, hurry up. I don’t have time to waste with your questions.”

Another question is on the tip of my tongue, but I shove it down.

Just stay alive. All I have to do is stay alive, do what he says, and then I might get to see my family again someday.

The thought plays on repeat through my head as I walk to the glass doors that lead to my balcony.

He follows me out, standing just behind me as I look down at the post he must have climbed to get up here.

The stone balcony is cold against my bare feet.

“One second,” Christian says, shrugging off the leather jacket he wears and holding it out to me. “You’re going to catch a cold, walking around like that in the middle of the night.”

“You could give me time to go back in and change.”

He scoffs and waves the jacket in my face. “And give you the chance to hit a hidden panic button? Fuck no. Put the coat on and get your tight little ass shimmying down the post.”

I snatch the coat from him as the breeze grows colder.

He reaches back inside my room and produces the pair of heels I was wearing at the bar.

They’re not going to be the easiest shoe to wear while climbing, but it’s the only option I’m being given.

“You’re not going to pull anything funny on the way down,” Christian says, crossing his arms.

I watch the way his tattoos move with his flexing muscles, my core clenching.

“I’m not stupid.”
