“Charlie reported that a wolf woman had been frantically walking in and out of the shop. Black hair and black clothes.”

I nodded mournfully. “That would be my ex.”

Kiara stiffened next to me. Her breath hitched. “Is that…my mother he’s talking about?”

I took my daughter’s hand. “Yes, sweet pea. I need you to be brave, okay? I need you to ignore whatever she tries to tell you. She’s a manipulator who just wants the amulet. I’ll be right here with you.”

She nodded rigidly, and I felt how awful this had ended up being for all of us. Teresa was putting us through hell—again—and she was about to pay for it. This hefty price would probably echo through Athens and beyond the borders of the state of Georgia. From now on, I wasn’t the type of wolf to get mowed over by women. From now on, I had a woman in my life who supported me and cared for me.

And that was the woman I was about to save.

I hugged my daughter to my side. I didn’t have time to give her a full measure of comfort, so a hard embrace would have to do for now. We started trading ideas once I got my team into a huddle with Ander’s team.

“One wolf with each vampire,” Ander suggested to the uncertainty of his two vamp soldiers, “then two wolves out front and one more in the back.”

“Let me approach the shop,” I offered, “because Teresa wants me specifically with the amulet. Would you trust me to carry it?”

Ander nodded without hesitation. He scooped the amulet from his neck and held it out to me. “You brought it to me. I trust you with it.”

Both vampires gasped. My team appeared shocked as well.

This was going to be an interesting night.

Once the amulet was secure around my neck, we broke up into our agreed teams and put our plan into action. Kiara shifted into her wolf form along with Blake, Jermaine, and Fred. My alpha chose to be the wolf at the rear of the shop while the remaining male wolves joined both vampires on Ander’s team. Ander himself offered to accompany my daughter.

And that was how the night started. I knew once we got to the shop that, everything would escalate quickly. As it usually did with Teresa, I would have to fight tooth and nail just to make sure that Kiara and the others got out unscathed.

My brows were set with determination as I marched toward the entrance. Not a few seconds after arrival, Teresa was in the doorway with an amorous expression. Truly, she must have been delusional.

She touched her chest where her heart would be if she hadn’t betrayed me. “You came for me.”

“I came for Regina.

“Is that what you have to tell yourself when you screw her?”

I growled. “Don’t be vulgar, Teresa. I’m here to hand you the amulet and get Regina to safety.”

“I bet when she scratches your back that you think about me.”

“You don’t know what I think.”

She gave me a sultry look while descending the steps. “I can tell your body still responds to my touch.”

My growl intensified. “Don’t you dare.”

“It’s just for the amulet. Come on, Eric. Sweetie.” She reached out to trace the emerald, eyes wild with lust. Not the good kind, either. It was the selfish and corrupted kind. “One kiss will help you remember.”

“I don’t want to kiss you.”

She hissed while freezing in place with her fists clenched at her sides. “You could have come with me. You could have helped me with the vampires. Your protection matters to me.”

“No, it doesn’t.”

My right ear twitched, knowing that Ander and Kiara were pacing nearby. The team was moving in. Just as I thought we had this in the bag, three vampires appeared behind Teresa. All three of them wore menacing expressions as they each cracked their knuckles.

Teresa sighed, stood up straight, and grinned. “Fine. I’ll take it the hard way. As usual.”

“Funny,” I snapped, “I was just thinking the same thing.”
