“I want Elizabeth safe and AJ dead.”

Zeus sent a panicked look to Tye, who shrugged.

“I’m with Reign. Let’s go and kill the cunt.”

“Jesus Christ,” Zeus hissed, pointing a finger at me, then Tye. “Don’t do anything stupid. You can’t protect Lizzie from behind bars.”

Tye gazed at Zeus but remained still, his arms crossed and his lips pressed together. He would let me lead on this, that much I knew. Because he was right; I did love Elizabeth, and I wouldn’t let AJ fucking West get away with this.

I needed a plan.

Later that day, I nodded at Tye, desperate to distract myself from thoughts of AJ touching Elizabeth as she begged him to stop.

I’ll kill that bastard.

“How’s it going with the Greek god?” I asked, referring to Zeus.

“It’s good one minute, then he’s holding me at arm's length,” Tye admitted with a yawn. “He can’t commit, but I understand that; that’s who he is.”

“That’s a tough compromise.”

“But it’s my choice, isn’t it? I’m with him on those terms, or not at all. He’s never led me on, Reign.”

“Do you love him that much?” I asked, arching my brow.

“Yeah.” Tye rolled his eyes. “I’m a sucker, aren’t I?”

“Hey, who you fall in love with isn’t a choice.”

Tye grinned at me, and I groaned. “Like Lizzie can’t help falling for you.”

“It’s different,” I argued. “I killed someone, and the man that did it with me fucking abused Elizabeth!”

“Accidentally, Reign, and that’s unrelated. AJ was her boss.”

It didn’t feel like that. Between AJ and me, we’d snuffed out a life, both of us too high on lust, too intoxicated by filth to notice she’d stopped breathing, and clearly, AJ hadn’t changed. I shuddered, yanking open my laptop.

“I need a few days to get my head together. Will you be here when Elizabeth comes home later?”

Elizabeth was safer with Tye and Zeus. Once she found out what I did, she wouldn’t want anything to do with me.

Tye stared at me, his eyes softening. “You don’t have to go. She’ll want you the most.”

“I do. I can’t fucking comfort her when I’m the one that…” I pinched the bridge of my nose and gritted my teeth. “Just look after her for me, Tye. Keep her away from AJ West. Please.”

“Okay, bud. Can’t guarantee we’ll keep our hands off her, though…”

I grunted at him, tapping away on my laptop. “Just don’t fall in love with her.”

“My heart belongs to another; you know this.” Tye rose to his feet, giving me a sheepish grin.

“I’m going to find Lizzie.”

“Okay. Thank you.” I booked a flight online to my lakeside cabin, buried away in the mountains. I couldn’t be the one to comfort her or keep her safe.

I needed to be far away from her. Whether we loved each other or not.
