“Very much so,” Luca agreed. “Without all the blood on her hands.”

“Are you sure?” Francisco posed.

His father chuckled lightly over the speaker. “That I know of,” he corrected. “So, what exactly happened during this encounter?” After I quickly rushed through the story again, Luca said, “Believe what she says. Though Ramsey Reed Sr. and I have a close enough association that no harm would ever come to any of his children, Lennon Marlow-Prince reminds me too much of Luca not to be taken seriously.” Ria’s full name was Luca Saveria Fiore-Benetti, named after the man, and he only ever called her Luca. “Nevertheless, I think that you’re missing the entire point of her visit to your hotel room, Killian.”

“What do you mean?”

“If your concern is that she might be a threat to your cause or our family, it shouldn’t be,” he said, and since he knew these people better than I did, I had no choice but to listen. “While being discovered is a worrisome thing, I think that you need to focus your energies on what she said, rather than her knowing what you do and who your people are.”

Speaking to Luca always made me feel like a small boy playing grown up, and right now was no different. "Meaning?”

“The girl told you that she had no problem going up against my family in order to protect her friend,” he reiterated. “She also made it perfectly clear that she was willing to die for that same friend, correct?”

“Yes.”

“So, if she’s willing to die for her friend, if she’s willing to go up against my family for her friend, what makes you think that she’d ever expose you, or us, knowing what it would do to that same friend?” he asked, and it was hard not to feel stupid. “Loyalty is everything, Killian. In my opinion, it’s stronger than love. Where love is an emotion that flows fluidly depending on your mood, loyalty is not. Loyalty is not a feeling; loyalty is a decision that you make every day. From what I know about Ramsey and his family, Lennon Marlow-Prince will never betray anyone that she loves, including your girl. So, with that alone, you are safe from her. And if one of your concerns is that Lennon knows about your friendship with us, I’m confident that it doesn’t need to be a concern.”

“It doesn’t bother you that she managed to find out all the things that she did?” I asked, even though I was beyond grateful for his blessing in this.

“Most of it is not that hard to uncover, Killian,” he replied. “As for everything else, it’s naïve to believe that RMM is what it is today because those families are all law-abiding citizens.” He had a point. “I trust Ramsey and his family, Killian. We wouldn’t be associates otherwise.”

“Thank you, Mr. Benetti,” I said, not knowing what else to say.

“You’re welcome,” he replied. “However, before we end this conversation, I feel I should warn you that Mrs. Prince will more likely try to kill you for hurting her friend before exposing you or us as revenge.”

“Yeah, I sort of got that impression from our talk last night,” I muttered, making Francisco grin.

“I’d take that possibility seriously,” he said solemnly. “Gender doesn’t mean much when you’re dealing with a brilliant mind.”

“I understand. Thank you again, Mr. Benetti.”

“Of course,” he replied before he hung up.

“Feel better?” Francisco asked as he looked over at me.

“Not at all.”

The fucker grinned again. “I wish that I had some sage advice to give you, but I don’t. Nothing fucks a man up more than a woman.”

That got a smirk out of me. “Don’t let your wife hear you say that.”

“Oh, my wife knows it,” he snorted, fiddling with the wedding band around his finger. As far as I knew, Francisco was the only man in the entire Benetti clan that wore a wedding ring.

Letting out a deep breath, I turned to pour myself another drink. “All this is pointless if Posie doesn’t give me a chance to fix this,” I stated plainly.

“True,” he said unsympathetically. “Still, I know that you’re not afraid to fight for what you want.”

I wasn’t.

Chapter 27

Posie~

After calling Lennon last night, she had immediately booked me a flight home, and when I’d gotten here, instead of talking about Killian, we’d gotten drunk like I’d needed.

However, with the sun shining this morning, a slight headache, and dressed in a t-shirt and yoga pants, I was making my way into the kitchen, Lennon already snacking on breakfast.

“You made this?”
