He holds his hand out to me, and I slip mine in his, letting him lead me over to the front door. I’m too busy staring out at all of the freshly fallen snow to realize that he’s kneeling in front of me and holding my snowsuit up for me.

“Oh,” I say, hurrying to step into it.

I zip it up as he gets my boots ready, and I huff out a laugh.

“I can dress myself too,” I inform him, and he nods.

“I know, but I like taking care of you.”

How can I argue with that?

He gets me dressed and then pulls his own winter gear on. He has a lot less than I do, and I take this time to learn more about shifters.

“Does your wolf keep you warm? Or are you just used to the weather up here?”

“Probably both, but my wolf keeps me warm for the most part.”

“Can I see him now?” I ask, and Nico pauses.

“When we get back. I’ll have to strip, and I don’t want you getting too hot in all of that.”

“You do have to strip?” I ask excitedly as I follow him outside.

“Yeah, why?” He asks with a slight frown.

“I’ve written about that. I don’t know; it’s just cool to realize that some of this stuff is cool.”

He smiles, taking my hand in his and leading me over to a snowmobile that doesn’t look like it’s been used in a while. The snow is packed in around it, and it takes him a few minutes to shovel it out.

I wrap my arms tight around his waist and hold on as he takes off up the mountain. Trees fly by us and I try to take in the view as we race through the snow.

A large log cabin comes into view and I know that it must be the headquarters. He pulls to a stop in front of the doors and turns off the machine. I stand, my legs feeling a little wobbly as I let go of Niko and crunch my way through the snow towards the front porch.

The door opens, and two big men walk out onto the porch. They glance at me and then look past me to where Niko is.

“Alec, Flint, this is my mate, Elle. Elle, this is Alec and Flint.”

“Nice to meet you,” I say as we join them on the porch.

“You too,” they say at the same time.

“Where’s everyone else?” Niko asks.

“Inside,” Flint says, stepping out of the way.

Niko leads me into the cabin and I smile at the three other men standing by the fireplace. They’re all huge, and I can’t help but wonder if all shifters are this big.

“Guys, this is my mate, Elle. Elle, that’s Davis, Gunner, and Ash.”

“Hey,” I say with a wave.

“Nice to meet you,” Davis says.

They all step towards me, and I lean against Niko’s side a bit.

“Any news?” Niko asks them and they shake their heads.

“Not yet, but I’m about to head out and do a sweep,” Gunner says.
