“I’ll go with him,” Ash offers, and Niko nods.

“We can take the east side of the mountain,” Davis says, and Flint nods.

“I’m going to go to Elle’s rental cabin and get her things. Can you stay here with her?” Niko asks Alec.

“Of course.”

I smile at Alec, and he gives me a friendly smile back. He seems like the quietest of the guys. He’s just as tall as Niko, but broader, and I wonder what kind of animal shifter he is.

“I’ll be back soon,” Niko promises me.

“I can come with you,” I offer, but he shakes his head.

“The stalker could be there. It’s safer for you here. Alec will keep you safe.”

“Alright.”

Niko kisses my forehead, squeezing my hand in reassurance before he heads out with the other guys.

“How are you liking Aspen Ridge so far?” Alec asks as I tug off my snowsuit and hang it on a hook by the door.

I move closer to the fireplace, trying to warm up a bit. The cabin has an open floor plan so you can see the kitchen and living room from the front door. There are a few bedrooms on this floor, all of which have been converted into offices. You can see part of the second floor from the living room, and I can see more offices up there.

“I haven’t seen much of it,” I say honestly.

“I’m sorry about that. You shouldn’t have to deal with this prick.”

“Thanks, but I was dealing with him in New York too,” I say with a sigh.

“Does Niko know that?” Alec asks, and I shrug.

“I think so.”

He nods, but he’s frowning a bit.

“This place is beautiful,” I comment as I look around the living room.

“I know. It was built when the town was used as an overwatch place. The Mountain Rescue team took it over about five decades ago.”

“Speaking of the Mountain Rescue…Do you need to do something? I don’t want to keep you from your work.”

“No, the others are taking care of it. I’m just here to hold down the fort.”

“Have you worked here long?” I ask.

“About three months. I was the last to join the team.”

“Were you in the Army too?”

“No, Marines. I’m the only Marine. Flint and Ash are Air Force, Davis, Gunner, and Niko were all Army.”

“Are you a wolf?” I whisper, and he smiles slightly.

“No,” he whispers back, and I laugh.

“Sorry, I just feel like I shouldn’t be talking about this.”

“You can. There’s no one around. I wouldn’t do it in like a crowded area or around other humans, but our secrets are safe in here.”
