“No!” I shout. “No, I’ve got it. I’m not going far.”

He frowns, and I hurry towards the bathroom, closing the door behind me. The man seems to love to carry and hold me. He didn’t let me take a step yesterday, and I’m kind of grateful for that now that I’ve seen the extent of my injuries.

“I need to go to headquarters and check on things,” Niko calls through the door.

“Is the storm over?” I ask as I flush the toilet and wash my hands.

“Yeah, it ended hours ago. We should be clear to head over to my work and then go get your things.”

I splash some water on my face and take in my appearance. My hair is mussed around my face and shoulders. I look pale, making my blue eyes look darker. I’m wearing one of his shirts, the material dwarfing me.

When I head out of the bathroom, Niko is there. He lifts me into his arms before I can protest, and I roll my eyes, grinning as he carries me back to bed.

“I can just stay here today. It might be easier on your back,” I tell him as he lays me down.

“You don’t weigh anything,” he informs me, and I snort.

“Sure.”

“You don’t. You’re perfect.”

He’s sweet; I’ll give him that.

“I’m not leaving you alone. Not when that guy is still out there.”

I want to ask him what happens when the week is over and I have to go back to New York, but I don’t want to start an argument or make things awkward. Part of me doesn’t want to think about it. If I’m going to have a romantic fling on vacation, then maybe I should just let it happen.

“I’ll get you some clean clothes to wear,” Niko says as he heads over to the dresser.

He pulls out another shirt like the one I’m wearing, this one in dark blue, and a pair of sweatpants that look like I’ll need to roll them up about a billion times to get them to fit.

“Thanks.”

He nods and pulls out a pair of jeans and a shirt for himself. I stand to head to the bathroom to change, but as soon as I move, his eyes find me and he frowns.

“I was just going to change,” I say, motioning to the bathroom door.

“I’ll go. You can change here. Help yourself to anything else that you need.”

“Thanks.”

He closes the door behind him and I hurry to change. I wore socks to bed last night since it was still storming and I knew that it would be cold. I decide to just leave them on since we’ll have my own clothes soon for me to change into.

“Ready?” Niko asks as soon as I open the door, and I nod.

I dart past him before he can try to lift me, and he growls.

“I could catch you,” he says softly from right behind me.

“I’m already there, so no need.”

I smile at him over my shoulder as we head into the kitchen.

“Ready for breakfast?” He asks, and I shake my head.

“No, I need to wake up a little more before I’ll be hungry.”

“Okay, then we can head over to headquarters now then.”
