“Good to know.”

“I’m a black bear.”

“That’s so cool! Can I see?” I ask him, and his cheeks heat.

“I don’t think that Niko would like that.”

“Would like what?” Niko asks, and I jump as he comes in the door with my suitcase behind him.

“See Alec’s bear,” I tell him, and Niko glares at Alec then frowns at me.

“No, he’d have to strip first ,and my mate isn’t seeing that,” Niko says, his voice tight.

“He could go somewhere else and then come back in once he had shifted,” I point out but Niko shakes his head.

“No.”

“No, what?” Davis asks as he and Flint come through the door.

“Niko won’t let me see Alec’s bear,” I tell them.

“I’ll let you see my wolf,” Davis offers, and Niko growls at him.

“No! No one is shifting for my mate.”

I smile slightly. I like seeing Niko all riled up and jealous over me. It kind of turns me on that he’s so possessive of me.

My phone buzzes and I pull it out to see Tessa’s name on the screen.

“I should take this,” I say, jumping to my feet.

Niko’s eyes track me as I head into his office and close the door slightly.

“Hey,” I answer.

“Hello? Elle?” Tessa says, and my heart sinks.

The connection is terrible, and I hurry over to the window, hoping the reception is better there.

“Can you hear me now?” I ask.

“Kind of, but it’s staticky.”

“The service here is pretty bad. Maybe Niko has a landline that I can use to call you.”

“Niko?” She asks, and I laugh.

“Yeah, you’ve missed so much,” I tell her.

“Tell me everythi—”

The line goes dead, and I sigh, sending her a quick text promising to call or email her later today.

“Hey, do you have a landline or something that I can use?” I ask as I walk out of the office and right into Niko’s chest.

“Yeah, in my office. It’s a satellite phone in my desk.”

He heads over to his desk and grabs a phone from the top drawer, passing it to me.
