“That is so good,” I moan, taking another bite.

Davis is frozen, staring at me, and for a second, I could swear that his eyes glowed and that he looked like he would rather eat me than the goat cheese and tomato bruschetta.

He blinks, and the glowing eyes disappear.

Must have been a trick of the light.

“What about you? What made you choose to come back to Aspen Ridge and work for the Mountain Rescue?”

“I always loved nature, too, and I missed this place. I knew some of the guys that I work with. Everyone who works for Mountain Rescue was actually in the military, so some of us have worked together before or been on deployments together.”

“That’s nice. It’s cool to reconnect with them.”

“Do you get lonely being a photographer?” He asks me, and I shrug.

“Sometimes. I think that’s why I’m ready to slow down or change what assignments I take. I want to be closer to my friend, Frankie. I want to have some permanency in my life.”

Our waiter comes back and tops off our water and takes the empty appetizer plate away. Our food comes out a moment later and Davis and I continue to ask each other questions as we eat.

I can’t help but watch him as he eats and hope he finishes all of his steak. The plate and steak are huge, but as we eat, he polishes off half, then two-thirds, then all of it. I try to hide my smile as he sighs and pats his stomach with a smirk.

“I’ll take you out again tomorrow,” he says, and I grin.

“Alright.”

Davis pays the check and takes my hand to lead me out to his SUV. It’s starting to snow, and he drives slowly down the streets back to the ski resort.

“What time can I see you tomorrow?” He asks me as he parks out front.

“Four?” I ask, and he nods.

“Let me give you my number. If you want to meet earlier, you can text or call me.”

I pull out my phone and pass it to him to enter his information. He calls himself and then passes my phone back to me.

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” I say, reaching for the door handle.

“I’ll walk you to the door. I don’t want you slipping.”

“You just want to hold my hand again,” I joke, and he grins.

“You caught me.”

He says it so sincerely, and I blush as his blue eyes bore into my green ones.

He heads around to get my door for me, and I duck my head as he takes my hand and helps me out of the car. He holds myhand tightly as we head over to the front doors. He pulls me off to the side and turns to face me.

“Until tomorrow,” he says softly, and my breath stalls in my lungs as his head bows toward mine.

His lips hover over mine for a beat, and then he kisses me. My brain short circuits as his lips mold to mine and his hands come up to cradle my face.

I pull out of my daze and kiss him back, my hands gripping his coat, and I cling to him as his mouth moves over mine. Tingles spark all over my body, and I feel like I might overheat even as snow starts to cover us.

“I could do that all night,” he tells me when he pulls back. “But I can’t have you catching cold.”

I want to invite him in, to tell him that I want him to keep kissing me all night, too, but he steps back, and the spell is broken.

“Tomorrow,” he says, and I nod, licking my lips.
