“Why not?!”

“Because they’re my family.”

She looked at me in shock –

But it was the truth.

Dario and his brothers were my family. And although I didn’t really know Bianca that well, Alessandra already felt like a sister.

“A mafia family,” Rachel said angrily.

I held her hands in mine. “Will you trust me?”

She looked so incredibly frightened. “…don’t ask me to do this…”

I touched my forehead gently to hers. “Please… will you trust me?”

She closed her eyes as pain twisted her features.

It took her a long time to answer, but she finally whispered, “…alright.”

“Thank you,” I murmured.

She opened her eyes and cocked one eyebrow. “If they kill me, I’m going to fucking kill you first.”

I laughed. “Deal. There’s a flight out of Heathrow at 9 PM… but we’ve got five or six hours before we have to be at the airport.”

“And what do you suggest?”

“Want to get a hotel room and have lots and lots of sex?”

“Oh, I want to,” she purred. Then she said with fake seriousness, “Especially since it might be the last chance we ever have.”

“Don’t worry,” I said, then grinned impishly. “The flight will go fine.”

“Yeah, it’s not the flight I’m worried about.”

Ibought the tickets on my phone during the taxi ride to the hotel. I chose one near Heathrow so we could dash out the door and get to our gate as soon as possible.

Just as we were checking in, I got a text from Niccolo.

You were right! Massimo is fine.

He has the Widow’s granddaughter and they’re both safe.

We’ll need you to go pick them up tomorrow.

Will give you the details when you get here.

“Why the big smile?” Rachel asked me when I looked up from my phone.

“I just got some amazing news.”

“I’ve got some amazing news, too,” she said as she took my hand and led me towards the elevator. No one else was inside.

“What’s that?”
