The silence didn’t last long before he broke it, his voice hesitant. “You’re probably going to deal with a few less than pleasant women who I’ve slept with. Will you regret it then?”

Something under his tone told me that my answer was very important, so I chose my words carefully.

“No, it will probably frustrate me when I have to deal with them, but I won’t hold it against you. There’s no changing the past and even if you could, it wouldn’t be fair of me to ask that you did. That’s part of who you were, and as long as it stays in the past, I don’t mind.”

I’d be seething anytime one of the women tried a stunt with him, but as long as he was mine at the end of the day, it didn’t matter.

Offering a weak smile, I shrugged. “Please be patient with me while I adjust to that.”

He nodded, his hand making circles over my back. “That won’t be a problem. I’ve never seen you get territorial before. This could be interesting.”

I huffed, throwing him a half-hearted glare. “Good to know you’ll find it amusing.”

He kissed my cheek, successfully negating the mild irritation that’d been building.

“You better be happy I like you,” I grumbled, and he hummed, tucking his chin on top of my head.

“Very much so, but we should probably get some sleep. Things are going to be hectic soon.”

We’d have to choose a day to go out with my parents, but that could wait. Right now was for us. Curling into his throat, I yawned, letting sleep take me.

The last thing I knew was the slow slide of his fingers over my back, then there was nothing.

Chapter 13

The woman stared at me, her mouth fixed in a superior smirk as she glared down her nose. Everything from her hair to her shoes screamed ‘spoiled rich girl,’ and not for the first time, I wondered just what Will had seen in her.

Oh, that’s right, he’d seen her boobs.

Which, to the woman’s credit, were big, but her personality ruined any beauty she might have going for her.

When she’d stormed into my clinic with that smirk all but glued to her lips, I knew things were going to get ugly. I’d promptly been proven right when she started asking about Will and if he was ready to ‘give up his little game.’

I knew that I’d have to deal with Will’s past with being a playboy, but I hadn’t thought it would be so soon.

At least he’d warned me about this, so I wasn’t blindsided.

Taking a deep breath, I pasted on a smile that felt more forced than pleasant. “Yes, Will and I are dating. But this is my place of business, and I’m not here to talk about my personal life. If you don’t have a pet I need to see after, please leave so I can give my attention to my actual clients.”

My tone had gone past cold to downright icy after at least 10 minutes of invasive questions and telling her that no, Will wasn’t looking for a side piece for our relationship.

She didn’t seem to understand the meaning of no. Given the rich vibe that rolled off her, I had a guess as to why that was.

I hated these types, the ones who believed that because they wanted something, it should be theirs. Entitlement was an ugly trait, and she was quickly wearing down what little patience I was born with.

She tossed her head, sticking her nose in the air as if this place was beneath her. “I’ll leave after you tell me what his angle is with you because I refuse to believe there’s not one. He suddenly chooses to drop a decade’s worth of fooling around with the likes of me…for you?”

Her tone held a scoff, as if the thought was preposterous. “Why would anyone leave a life of fun and pleasure for the white picket fence lifestyle? People don’t do that, especially not ones like Will, who could have his choice of any woman he wanted.”

I could already see where she was going with this, and I raised a brow. “I’m assuming you’re talking about yourself there?”

She was arrogant to a maddening point and she nodded, pleased. “Of course, I wouldn’t expect you to understand, but I’m considered a catch. Rich, beautiful, and I wouldn’t restrict him in the bedroom like you would.”

I can’t believe she went there.

Red leaked into my vision, and I forced another breath through my lungs. When I felt less like I’d claw at her eyes if I moved, I gritted out.

“Well, apparently you aren’t enough of a catch for him, because he never wanted to date anyone before and that includes you, your royal highness. Now leave. I’m done wasting my time on the likes of you.”
