It makes me laugh and I hate how happy I am that Adonis never went there.

Mind you he rejected me too and I understand what that’s like.

Christos pours a glass of wine from the bottle in the chiller and winks.

“I accompanied the brothers on many flights, and I’ve never seen Adonis so angry.”

My heart falls. He’s angry. It must be because he’s disgusted with me.

I take a sip of the wine and reflect on the man who is never far from my mind. I wonder why he walked away. Did he even care? Has he thought about me since?

I wish I understood how his mind works and I sigh and shake away the image of him and concentrate on the task at hand.

“Have you been to Miami before Christos?”

He nods. “Many times. The Constantines love Florida and they used to own a house in the Keys.”

“Used to?”

His face falls. “Yes, everything was sold when Mrs. Constantine, um, passed and they prefer to vacation in Greece now.”

“Do you know where we’re heading?”

I’m curious because all I know is that I’m meeting this frankly scary sounding Mikhail Romanov.

Christos nods. “I heard them talking on the fight over. Mr. Romanov has a penthouse on Miami beach. You will be taken there.”

My eyes widen. Why didn’t they tell me this? Even Christos knows and Chloe probably does too. I hate that I’m out of the loop and like a lamb to the slaughter, so I smile my thanks and head back to my seat, once again closing my eyes on the shit I have landed myself in.

I don’t even know how long I slept for before I jerk awake to find Dimitri sitting opposite me nursing a glass of what appears to be whiskey.

“Hey, sleeping beauty. You’re awake and I didn’t even need to kiss you.”

His cheeky grin makes me forgive him and I can’t resist firing back. “I thought you had run out of kisses today.”

His eyes sparkle as he grins, a wolfish grin that makes me smile. Dimitri Constantine is a very sexy man for his age, and I can see why Chloe isn’t averse to his attention. I’ve never been attracted to an older man before, but if I was, I’m pretty sure it would be someone like him. He is in good shape, toned and inked, and his startling blue eyes twinkle with mischief, which could definitely lead to a girl’s ruin.

“We need to talk.” He says suddenly, and it makes me sit up, my heart pounding.

“Are you sure you want to do this, Melissa?”

He stares at me with a direct look that gives me nowhere to hide, and I nod. “Of course.”

“Even if it means you are hurt, assaulted, or killed?”

Wow. I stare at him in disbelief and his expression doesn’t change for a second and I hate that my voice quivers as I say defiantly, “Yes.”

The way he is staring at me tells me everything. He considers me a fool and I kind of agree with him. Why am I even putting myself in danger for people I’ve only just met?

Troy would be so angry if he found out. I doubt I’d ever recover from the fallout and Harrison wouldn’t be far behind him. I can’t even explain it to myself because what the hell am I thinking?

“What are your reasons?”

Dimitri won’t give up and I say carefully, “You probably think I’m an idiot and I kind of agree with you. The thing is, Dimitri–” I sigh heavily and lean back in my seat and wrestle with my reasoning.

“For a long time, I’ve been searching for who Melissa Remington really is.”

I shrug. “I’m not saying I’ve had it bad, far from it. Money brings a certain kind of comfort and I adore my family, but I’ve never really understood the lifestyle. I’ve always played up to it to fit in. I acted the heiress all through school and ran with the crowd I was expected to. I was friends with the kids of my parent’s friends and associates and have always done everything I’m told.”
