Talon had been a rock up until this point. But this situation might break him.

When we were seated, Talon leaned over. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I will be. I think I’m just hungry.”

“They’re serving dinner soon. Hang in there.” Talon held my hand on my lap, and I was reminded about how thoughtful Talon had always been.

He looked after me. He cared for me. We were in this together. I just had to remember that.

We ate dinner, and I carefully avoided drinking the champagne. I pretended to sip during the toasts but otherwise stuck to water. If Talon noticed, he didn’t mention it.

Sarah and Knox danced the first dance. The attendants paired off. I was with Talon, and I was never more relieved to be in his arms.

Talon pulled me close and whispered into my ear, “Whatever it is, we’re in this together.”

“I know,” I said to him, and his shoulders lowered.

He knew something was wrong, and he was worried I’d shut myself off from him. I didn’t want him to think that about me anymore. I wanted to be there for him, too.

“We’ll talk afterward?” Talon asked, his forehead creased with concern.

I nodded. “Of course.”

Talon nodded tightly as we continued to sway around the room.

When the first song ended, Knox asked Addy to dance, and the floor cleared for them. A minute in, Sebastian led Ember out. It was the sweetest picture.

Seeing these big, strong men with their daughters made me wonder what Talon would be like with a son or daughter.

Talon stood behind me. He held me to him as he tipped his head toward his brothers and nieces and said, “We can have that someday.”

My throat tightened, and I realized I wanted that with all my heart. If I was pregnant, we’d go to the best doctor, and I’d do whatever it took to keep this baby. I knew the other miscarriage wasn’t my fault, but it was possible I could have another one.

There was more dancing, then the cake cutting, and finally, we saw Sarah and Knox out. Addy was staying with Sebastian, Hanna, and Ember tonight.

“Are you ready to get out of here?” Talon asked when the guests started leaving.

I nodded even though I was worried about marring our night with my suspicions.

“Gia is sending a cleaning crew tomorrow,” I said.

“You think anyone would notice if we slipped away?” Talon asked conspiratorially.

“They probably have the same plans.” The wedding was already too much for the antisocial Monroe men.

Talon led me toward his truck, where we rode in silence to his cabin. This morning, I’d left with my heart in my throat. Worried about what it would mean if I was pregnant. But now, I was feeling more positive and at peace with my decision to include Talon in everything.

This time, I wouldn’t take the test by myself and deal with the results on my own. Talon was here to support me, and for once, I’d let him.

He waited until we were standing in the foyer, our shoes and jackets put away. “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”

“I think—I’m worried I might be—”

He raised a brow. “Pregnant?”

My breath released in one big whoosh, and I nodded.

He took my hand in his. “What do you need?”
