This time instead of a drawn-out dance of teasing and conversation, he merely took her in his arms and pulled her into the bed with him, kissing her gently.

Olivia melted like chocolate for him, clinging to him as he filled her again and again, as if he were desperate to be sure she was still in his arms.

The pleasure splintered her until she felt as free as the snowflakes dancing outside the window.

When they were both spent, he collapsed on her chest, panting and still holding her close. She closed her eyes, trying to memorize his heat as the tremors of pleasure eased.

How can this end?

Her heart ached as she breathed him in.

Suddenly, loud chimes rang through the silence, echoing all through the house as if unseen bells were ringing in each room.

“Deactivate privacy mode,” Stark roared, leaping up and crouching on the bed in front of Olivia, as if to protect her. “What’s going on?”

“Protestors gathered outside the center have become agitated,” Oberon said, his voice sounding more serious than usual. “The two of you will need to remain calm, but dress as quickly as possible. A security detail will escort you to the center’s hospital where the staff is locked down.”

“Protestors?” Olivia echoed. What was going here that anyone would protest against?

“Has there been a breach?” Stark demanded.

“At this time there has not been a physical breach of Center property,” Oberon replied immediately.

“Let’s keep it that way,” Stark said. “Put me on with Oppyx as soon as we’re on the road.”

“She’s at the hospital already, waiting to talk with you in person,” Oberon told him.

Olivia slid out of bed, grabbed her clothing from the floor, and headed for the refresher.

“Where are you going?” Start demanded.

“Just to clean up quickly and get dressed,” she said, hearing the defensiveness in her own voice.

“Leave the door open,” Stark said in a dark tone that would brook no arguments.

“Okay,” she said.

“And hurry,” he added.

She heard him on his comms before she started the refresher. He was speaking tersely to someone and sounding like the soldier she knew he once had been. Her pulse and her thoughts raced as she bathed as quickly as possible and got dressed.

“Good,” he said to her, nodding as she came out. “Let’s go.”

He was dressed already and off his comms, looking like he had been ready forever, though she knew she had taken only two or three minutes in the refresher.

“Okay,” she said, heading for the stairs.

“On my back,” he said, reaching for her.

There was no point arguing. The tension in his face told her he was dead serious.

Stomach churning, she climbed onto the bed and wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.

“Hold on tight and don’t let go no matter what,” he told her, his voice a rumble.

“I won’t let go,” she told him solemnly.

He moved like the wind, his big body so swift and graceful that it was startling.
