And she thought she could keep him out with a chair under the doorknob?

Crazy woman. He stroked Caesar’s silky head and the dog preened under his touch. The animal had always liked Cap, unlike his owner. It had taken Cap two months to wrangle a date out of the Minneapolis socialite. Holland had her sister under wraps within two weeks but Cap had had to work.

And every second had been worth it right up until she had left. After that, Cap had gone a little crazy himself. He couldn’t blame her but oh how he wanted to.

He removed his shoes, t-shirt, and jeans, and climbed in behind her under the covers. She was going to be so pissed when she woke up and found him in bed with her and yet, the part of her she refused to acknowledge would be relieved. He’d seen that part earlier when she’d realized it was him she’d run into.

Her green gaze could be the shade of mint with joy, deep moss-green with need or somewhere in between with her anger. But when she’d realized it was him in front of her, those gorgeous orbs had gone nearly black with her relief and want.

He knew her. His soul recognized hers. His heart beat for hers. He refused to let her sleep under the same roof and not sleep with him beside her.

He reached for her and she curved against him beautifully. She wore a t-shirt and panties. Her scent would keep him up for hours yet, but her skin was so soft under his hands it was worth the loss of sleep. He pulled her hair out from under them, letting it spill on the pillow.

She murmured something in her sleep and wiggled her fine ass until she settled in the cradle of his hips. His cock, so long denied her body, rose like a champion between them. The lust she never failed to stoke in him flamed higher.

And Cap just laid there absorbing her presence, feeling her heat, and knowing his world was right as long as she was alive and in his arms. Tomorrow he’d take up the campaign to win her mind back. Her heart and soul were already his. It was her mind he had to capture.

And if Cap was anything, he was a determined bastard.

He had a helluva fight coming up.

CHAPTER FOUR

She was so—damn—hot. It was Ava’s first thought upon waking. She pushed the duvet cover off and wait! Duvet?

She wasn’t in Atlanta anymore.

Nope.

She was outside Pittsburgh. Safe in a house owned by a former SEAL. And that heat?

Oh hell no!

She moved experimentally and the resulting groan that rumbled from his chest to her back had rage infiltrating her mind. Her body, of course, softened. The steel of his cock at her back was a brand and her body, the bitch, wanted her some of that.

Her brain though, bless its heart, intruded.

She sat up like a shot and turned around to face him.

He turned over on his back, a rakish smile slashing those full lips, making him seem a plunderer and her a helpless maiden.

Helpless her ass!

“What are you doing in my bed?”

“Protecting you.”

“From what?” Her throat protested—was she yelling?

“Yourself.”

“I’ve got me,” she said.

He winced. Then he reached around her and grabbed the ear buds, handing them to her. She had been yelling.

She put the earbuds in and turned them down low. Last night had taught her that too much sound was as bad as no sound at all.

Cap shrugged. “You’ve had you. Now I have you.”
