He pushed her face into his neck again and they stayed that way for long moments. Eventually, her sobs eased, and she pulled away from Cap.

“I think I know where the flash drive is,” she told him with her hands.

He looked at her hard, as if willing her to be quiet.

“What is it, Cap?”

“I don’t know who to trust anymore,” he signed. “I need you to be silent until we get to where we’re going.”

She had so many questions, but fatigue pulled at her. She trusted Cap…completely, so she nodded at him that she understood.

“Sleep,” he told her. “I’ll wake you up every thirty minutes to check on you.”

He held onto her, not letting her go, and she relaxed in his arms giving over to the tiredness.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

He put her gently on the bed when she fell asleep. Then he stood there staring at her—she was, even with the beating she’d taken, the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. He’d wanted to make the lead Russian suffer. The Russian had gone a little crazy as Cap had stalked him across the basement with his K-bar in his hand.

He'd finally gone down on his knees but pulled out a gun and Wolf had put one in his temple.

So much for getting any information out of him.

“How is she?” Marshall asked from a couch in the cabin.

Scope was working on his leg—it had been a through and through shot in the meaty section of his lower thigh. Nothing was broken and no vessels were hit. He was lucky. And he’d not allowed anyone to work on him until Ava was seen about.

“She’s going to make it,” Cap said quietly.

“Ava is a fucking beast,” Marshall told him. “She baited that crazy fucker to keep him from shooting me again. I owe her.”

Cap waved that off. “Just get better, Marsh.” To Ray he asked, “What is Tex saying?”

“He’s cleared the small airport on the edge of Pittsburgh for us to come back to his place.”

Cap nodded and sat down. He’d almost lost her. At any time, the crazy Russian could have shot her dead and there’d not been a damn thing Cap could do about it. If Marshall owed Ava, Cap owed Tex. He also owed Wolf, Abe, Dude and Benny. Without them it would’ve been a helluva fight against the heavily armed Russians.

Instead it had been a pretty easy in and out. They’d sniped out the Russians surrounding the house and then infiltrated the house. He ran a hand down his face, weariness tugging at him.

He needed Holland.

“Yeah?” Holland said and his own fatigue was in his voice.

“It’s time to hunt,” Cap said into the SAT phone. “Meet me at Tex’s outside of Pittsburgh.”

Then he hung up, knowing that Holland would come and they could get a handle on this. The other man would put his search for Olivia, or whoever the woman on the CCTVs screens was, on hold to help Cap. It’s just how they worked. Cap would lay his life down for his best friend and vice versa.

They had a flash drive to find and traitors to kill.

He got up and walked back to the bedroom to check on Ava. She was sleeping. Her poor face and head had taken the worst of the beating and he wanted to resurrect the Russia and kill him all over again.

He sat on the bed beside her and nudged her shoulder gently. He’d left the light on.

He shook her again and she came up out of sleep slowly. When she opened her swollen eyes he wanted to be the first thing she saw so she’d know she was safe.

She saw him and gave him a smile. She hissed in a breath when it hurt her split lip, and he cursed long and low.

“Your ears are charging,” he signed. “I love you.”
