“Hello there, Jack. My name is Noah.”

Noah bounced him slightly. Jack giggled and then babbled something as though he was having a conversation with Noah.

“I agree with you there. You seem to be a smart guy.”

The baby laughed hard and then babbled something again. People around them were watching the scene with huge smiles.

“You could let the rest of us in on the conversation,” Angie said.

“Nope. It’s just between Jack and me,” Noah said.

“You are a natural with him. You need to have a bunch of your own pups. You’ll make a great father,” Olivia said.

“I think I would, too,” Noah said, looking meaningfully at Angie.

Angie pretended not to see.

Noah set Jack back into the carrier and said, “We’ll let you guys get back to your meal.”

Zac caught Noah’s eye, looked at Angie and back at Noah, then raised his eyebrows. Noah shook his head slightly.

What was that all about? Angie wondered.

Dinner was fun. Angie and Noah talked about several different subjects.

I would never get bored hanging out with him. I’m pretty sure we would never run out of things to talk about.

Angie shook her head to get the thought out.

Can’t happen.

Noah walked her to the front door again. He looked into her eyes as though he was trying to see her soul. Lowering his head, he pressed his lips against hers. At first, the kiss was delicate. Then, as hunger consumed them both, his lips pressed harder against hers. She opened her mouth to his tongue.

She felt his breath on her cheek. His smell was intoxicating. It was a hint in the air that gently wafted around them.

One of his hands was at the back of her neck and the other was on her back. He held her close to his body as his tongue explored her mouth. She wrapped her arms around him, spreading her hands flat over his tight muscles.

Her heart was beating a million miles an hour. Her knees were weak and her insides melted. The world faded away and it was just the two of them standing there.

Noah looked up and Angie was lost in his eyes. She felt as though she lost something when the kiss ended.

“I’d better go.” His voice was deep and husky.

Angie nodded, although she wanted to invite him in. She knew that if she did, they wouldn’t stop at a kiss. For the first time in her life, she wanted something more from a man. She wanted him. Her body ached for his touch and for him to make love to her.

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” he promised.

She went inside and watched him walk to his car from the window. What would he say if she went after him? What would he say if she told him she was a mundane human first? Would his answer change?

“You have a message,” Benny said, his voice tense. “The man said that he tried calling your cell but he couldn’t get through, so he called here.”

“Thanks,” Noah replied.

Benny gave Noah a hard look and shook his head as the hotel manager handed a folded paper to the alpha.
