The thought of Angie being with another man infuriated Noah. The emotion surprised him because, as she pointed out, they weren’t a couple. He wasn’t in love with her. Angie was not his.

“I’ll figure things out, soon,” Noah promised. “I don’t want to hurt her.”

Then, with a nod, he continued his run to the tree where he kept his clothes.

Angie was at home when he got there.

“What good works are you about to dash off to?” he asked.

“I wasn’t. I was planning on going to the Capulin Volcano. It’s pretty up there and quite the workout,” she said. “Would you like to come along?”

“Sure,” he said.

The drive was about an hour away. They discussed different types of music part of the way and drove in a comfortable silence the rest of the way. When they parked in the lot, she put a halter and leash on Apollo. The dog looked offended.

“You know the rules. When we are in public, you have to wear a leash or other people get upset.” Then she pointed at Noah and said, “Speaking of people getting upset, keep your clothes on and no shifting. Although this is a national forest, people won’t be expecting to see either a naked man or a wolf.”

Noah looked at Apollo and said, “Bossy, isn’t she?”

Apollo barked as though agreeing with Noah.

As promised, the walk around the rim of the volcano was a workout. It had been a long time since Noah’s legs got so tired.

“This volcano is in the middle of about a hundred volcanoes spread out over eight thousand square miles,” she said. “It is one of the tallest volcanos in the country and is one of the most perfectly formed cinder cone volcanos.”

They carefully descended into the crater of the volcano.

“It wouldn’t be fun if it decided to erupt right about now,” Noah said. “It’s beautiful here, but I wouldn’t like to become part of the landscape.”

“Not likely. It last erupted about sixty thousand years ago and is considered extinct. Other volcanos in the Raton-Clayton volcanic field are considered to be dormant but nothing has erupted in more than thirty thousand years. I think you’re safe.”

“Good to know,” he said.

After they explored the area, they stopped off at a little café with outdoor seating for dinner. Angie told him about other interesting sites in New Mexico as they drove back to her house.

He walked her to the door, expecting to be invited in. She put her hand on his chest and said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Noah looked into her eyes and saw a storm. It was a mixture of want, need, vulnerability, and fear. He nodded.

She hugged him and he brushed a kiss across her lips and he left.

You need to make a decision, Noah thought. This situation is starting to get dangerous for both of you.

Angie

The next morning, Flora, Olivia, Jade, and Angie meet for breakfast at one of the local cafés. After they ordered, the three shifters stared at Angie.

Sighing heavily, Angie hung her head. “Damn shifter. Can’t hide anything from you people.”

Everyone laughed and then Flora got serious. She fixed Angie with a hard stare and said, “Really. You gave your virginity to Noah.”

“Why don’t you say it a little louder?” Angie said. “I don’t think the people in Albuquerque heard you.”

“What were you thinking?” Flora demanded in a quieter voice.

“I was thinking that it felt right. We spent the day together. He took me to dinner. I invited him in. We went to the hot tub. One thing led to the other,” Angie said. “I’m not sorry.”
