“I’m not a stalker. Just an observer,” Noah protested.

“What were you hoping to observe?”

“Your life. I wanted to get a hint as to why you rejected me.”

“I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings,” Angie said.

“You didn’t. You just made me curious.”

“Mm-hmm,” Angie said teasingly.

He seems to be a really nice guy. Noah does look good. I haven’t seen any man who is as sexy as he is, alpha or not.

“Tell me about your life,” he asked.

“I think you already know a lot of it since you’ve been sta… observing me. Mom and Dad had billions they made through real estate and other projects. I don’t have to go out and get a regular job, but I’m pretty sure I work as hard as those who do,” Angie said. “I like to keep busy. I’m not the kind of person to sit about, watch soap operas, wear bunny slippers, and eat chocolates, or go shopping and constantly spend money on things I don’t need. I like helping others.”

“Why are you so passionate about domestic violence victims?”

“One of my friends works at the hospital and called me. One of her patients had been hurt for years by her husband. She had three little girls. The woman was desperate to get away from him but had no money and no friends or family in the area. My friend thought that I could help.”

Noah growled and clenched his fist. “I would love five minutes with that guy.”

Angie grinned. “You and me, both. However, the woman and her children went to Canada, where her family was and, last I heard, she was doing well. He went to prison.”

“That’s good at least,” Noah said. “What about the animals?”

“I’ve always loved them. I got Apollo after he and several other dogs were rescued from a puppy mill.”

She noticed that Noah was absently petting Apollo. The dog had his head in the alpha’s lap, looking up at him adoringly. Animals are a great judge of character and Angie really liked Noah, too. Liking him and the fact that Noah was a great guy didn’t change the problem. She couldn’t marry the alpha, and she couldn’t tell him that she was a mundane human. It would dishonor her parents.

“Your job as a luna would be to help people in the pack and in the community,” Noah reminded her.

Angie groaned. “You don’t give up, do you?”

“Nope. I might have been called stubborn a time or two myself.”

“I never would have guessed,” she said sarcastically. “Do you sit around all day telling other people what to do?”

“I guess that would be one’s impression of an alpha. Honestly, I do a lot of paperwork and attend meetings.”

“That’s what Zac says.” Angie laughed. “I assume you know him?”

“I do. We’ve met a few times, and then I saw him at the funeral.”

“He’s a good guy. What do you do for fun?” she asked.

“I love soccer, playing and watching. I’m a huge hockey fan, too, although I don’t play. Believe it or not, I enjoy woodworking. I have a nice shop with a lot of tools.”

“Why wouldn’t I believe it?” she asked.

“Who would guess that the alpha would spend time in a shop making cabinets, wooden boxes, tables, and anything else out of wood?”

“You’re human, aren’t you? You have to do something besides walking around growling at everyone.” Angie laughed.

“I suppose so.”

Angie really liked Noah. He was an extremely nice guy – not the arrogant, evil-tempered man some alphas could be. Olivia, Zac’s luna, had told her about the alpha she had once been betrothed to and who tried to kill her. He was the worst kind of human being.
