Noah was relaxed and his eyes were a bluish-sea green color that reminded her of the ocean on a calm day. His scent of cedar and something else wafted in the air and intoxicated her. There was something about Noah that tugged at her soul, making her want to get closer to him, physically and emotionally.

Stop. You can’t.

“I haven’t shifted in a couple of days and could use the exercise. Can you recommend a good place?”

Angie hesitated, and then, ignoring the voice screaming inside of her, telling her to stay away from him, she said, “I’ll take you.”

They drove in a comfortable silence to the mountain. She parked at the base and led him to a small oasis in the forest next to a creek. A million small wildflowers were everywhere. Purple, red, pink, white, yellow, and blue carpeted the ground.

He started to undress and then asked, “Are you going to shift?”

“I don’t really feel like it right now. I think I’ll just hang out here and relax.”

He nodded. Angie sucked in her breath. The man was a sexy god. His arms were thick and his chest was very well-defined. A tiny trail of dark hair was smattered across his chest and led down his six-pack to his waist.

A hot flame rushed through her. Angie was instantly aroused by his incredibly sexy body. Her fingers itched to touch him and trace the contours of his muscles.

Turning her attention to Apollo, she could feel a blush of heat creep into her cheeks. She had been around shifters her entire life, and he definitely wasn’t the first man she had ever seen naked. However, she had never had this reaction around any other man, no matter how sexy or hot they were.

With a grin, as though he had noticed her reaction, Noah folded his clothes, put them in a bag, and put them in a tree. Angie watched, fascinated, as he shifted into a wolf. He nodded at her and then took off.

Not for the first time, Angie wished with all her heart that she could shift, too. This time, it wasn’t only because she loved wolves and wanted to have the freedom that shifters had. If she was a wolf shifter, then there could be a future between her and the god-like alpha who had just stripped in front of her.

The water was clear. Angie knew that it would be cold, but she couldn’t resist. Pulling off her clothes, she folded them and put them in a baggie, too. She might not be a shifter but she learned from them that plastic bags could hide the scent of the clothes and would keep the bugs from crawling in them.

“Brr,” she said, putting her foot in. Apollo watched as she put in another foot and waded deeper into the creek until the clear water was waist-high. Then, the large dog leaped into the creek, splashing Angie.

“You did that on purpose, didn’t you, Mutt?” She laughed.

Apollo barked.

Angie watched the minnows swim around. A couple of them nibbled on her toes. She splashed water on her face and then glided through the water, careful not to go too far. Apollo interrupted her strides as he paddled beside her, occasionally diving when he saw a fish he wanted to catch.

She floated on her back and spotted a couple of turtles sunbathing on a rock. A couple of rabbits caught Apollo’s attention. He wanted to chase them but would never leave Angie’s side. Two deer munching on the grass captured her attention.

Suddenly, she squealed when she was splashed by a tidal wave of cold water. Noah had jumped into the creek with her.

“You didn’t warn me, traitor,” she growled at Apollo.

The dog simply wagged his tail at her.

Noah shifted into human form and they splashed each other until Angie was certain that there was more water on the banks than there was left in the creek.

“I won,” he declared as they made their way back to the bank.

“Not a chance,” she said. “I won. I got you way more times than you got me.”

Apollo walked up between them and shook.

“I believe he just put his two cents in.” Noah laughed.

They stretched out on the soft, velvety flowers. The warm sun felt so good as it shined down on her body. It felt natural to lay next to Noah, letting the heat from the day dry them. Angie resisted the strong urge to reach out to hold his hand.

There is no future for us. Knock it off.

That didn’t make the want or desire any less. There was an ache for him that smoldered deep inside of Angie.

It’s just because of everything that’s been going on lately, she assured herself. It will pass.
