Noah really wanted to get back to Angie, but in the interest of keeping up goodwill, he agreed.

That night, Noah said, “I hope that all the drama is over. I’m ready to go through the mating ceremony with Angie and get back to my ordinary, boring, everyday life.”

“I hear you, Brother.” Keith laughed.

“You’re doing great,” Dr. Jen said. “You’re still going to be sore and get tired easily, but you can start to resume your normal activities.”

“Thank you for everything, Doctor,” Angie said.

“You are most welcome, my dear. Take care of yourself.”

Carolyn went back to her duties at the hospital since Angie was able to take care of herself for the most part. She stopped by that evening with dinner.

After they ate, Angie checked her phone again and frowned.

“No messages?” Carolyn asked.

“No, I haven’t heard from him for three days. I’ve called a couple of times. It’s like he picks up and then immediately hangs up. I’ve tried texting, but I haven’t gotten any replies back.”

“I’m so sorry. I’m sure there is an explanation,” Carolyn said.

“Maybe he is so humiliated because everyone knows that I’m human and that he and the others were hurt because of me,” Angie said. “My own grandfather set me up to be killed.”

“That can’t be it,” Carolyn said. “He came to see you after you were hurt. He was really worried about you. He came by to check on you all the time.”

“Now, he’s ghosting me,” Angie said. “I guess there is my answer to my questions regarding his feelings for me.”

“Noah doesn’t seem to be the type to ghost someone. Give him a couple more days,” Carolyn urged.

The next morning, Angie realized that she had been throwing up every morning for the last week and a half. The smell of bacon made her extremely nauseous. Her breasts were tender. She was very tired, but the doctor warned her that she would be. However, Angie was sure that something else was going on.

She called Carolyn the next morning, who offered to take her to the doctor. After Angie peed in a cup and the doctor took some blood, she walked into the examination room with a huge smile.

“Guess what? You’re going to be a mother. I didn’t have to do the tests. I knew it as soon as you walked in, but I figured you’d like the scientific proof.”

“What?” Angie asked. She had suspected that she might be but was still shocked to hear the doctor confirm it.

“I’m guessing the father is our alpha. Even though you’re human, you are ninety-nine percent likely to have a wolf shifter. That means, in about five or six months, you are going to have a baby.”

“Six months?”

“Yes. Shifter babies grow faster than mundane humans. Other than that, it will be the same as if you were having a mundane human. You might have cravings. You will be tired. A couple of weeks before the child is born you will start nesting, meaning you will scrub your home from top to bottom and then from bottom to top.”

“Will the baby be so big that I have to have a c-section?” Angie asked.

“Not necessarily. Shifter women and mundane women have the exact same body styles. You should be fine.”

Angie asked worriedly, “You don’t think my injuries or the medications hurt the baby?”

“No. I don’t think you have anything to worry about, but we’ll keep close tabs on you anyway,” Dr. Jen said.

Carolyn was excited when Angie told her. “Yeah. I get to be an aunt,” she exclaimed.

“You do, but that doesn’t mean you get to spoil the baby.”
