“I will only use it one more time,” Noah said, “although I hope that Angie will be using it a lot to travel between worlds if she’ll come home with me and be my luna.”

“I’m glad to see you back,” Micah said. “The masquerade ball fundraiser wouldn’t have been the same without you. Have you decided what your costume is?”

“I could go without a mask as a victim of a serial killer because the scars on my face haven’t quite healed,” Angie joked.

Micah smirked and shook his head.

“I was thinking about Cleopatra. I’m sure that someone even has a snake I could borrow that wouldn’t mind hanging around my neck all night.”

“Actually, I know a couple of snake shifters. They are pretty awesome folks, unlike what some people would believe. They would think it a hoot to go as your plus one and accessory,” Micah said.

“I’d love to meet them,” Angie said. “What’s your costume?”

“Clark Kent. I’ll have the suit and tie with a Superman costume underneath.”

“Why don’t you go as Superman?”

“What fun is that? I like to keep people guessing,” Micah said. “You could always go as Lois Lane.”

“Nah. I have my heart set on wearing a snake as an accessory,” Angie said.

Just then, a deep voice said behind them, “I’m sorry to interrupt the party, but Angie, I really need to talk to you.”

Angie gasped and knocked over her orange juice, sending her glass shattering to the patio floor. She whirled around and stared at Noah.

Rufus ran up to Apollo and it looked like the two dogs were hugging each other. Angie smiled at them for a minute and then looked back at the man who had once again invaded her life.

“What are you doing here?”

“I needed to talk to you. Neither Betsy nor Thomas answered the door. I heard voices out here, so I let myself through the gate,” Noah said.

“I don’t think that there is anything left to say,” Angie said. “You should just go back to the shifter world and be happy. I have my life here.”

“Give me ten minutes and if you still feel that way, then I will leave,” Noah said. “Micah, if you will excuse us, please.”

Angie hesitated. Micah stood up and put a comforting hand on Angie’s shoulder.

She sighed and said, “It’s okay, Micah.”

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“I am,” Angie said. “We’ll talk soon.”

Micah nodded and hugged Angie. He glared at Noah as he passed by.

“I think he has a thing for you,” Noah said.

“No. He’s just my friend,” Angie said. “You have ten minutes.”

“Can I sit down?” he asked.

Angie waved her hand at the chair and sat across from him.

“Right after the meeting where I sentenced Abner to Charred Cove Island, I had an emergency come up. I sent you a text message to let you know I would be gone for a couple of days, but it didn’t go through. I think the elder blocked it and later deleted it. I should have called instead of texting, but I wasn’t thinking. I was focused on how I could handle the situation,” he said.
