“What does he remember about going up to their lair?”
“Not much. Hopefully, he’ll remember more later. Right now, he is just so traumatized,” Ian said.
“That’s completely understandable. He’s brave for getting through everything that he did,” Zac said.
He went to the bear clan’s meeting hall that afternoon for a meeting with all of the alphas in the area.
Matthias said, “Adam described Marsden perfectly. He said there were four or five other witches with her.”
“Is it enough to go after her?” the tiger alpha clan asked.
“It is,” Matthias said. “We just have to figure out how. Even the dragon shifters would have trouble defeating the witches if she knew they were coming. She can throw spells when the dragons are too far away for their fire to get to her.”
“So, we have to catch her unaware,” Zac said. “That means finding her lair and laying some kind of trap. Does Jennifer, the queen of the Circle of Sacred Meadow’s witches’ coven in town, have any ideas?”
“She said that they are looking for the lair as well,” Lucius reported. “They aren’t any happier with her than we are, and they are well aware of the devastating effect a spell like the one Marsden is reportedly concocting would have.”
“She did say that if Marsden can be captured, they have a prison that prevents witches, wizards, and warlocks from using their powers,” Marvin added.
“What is the difference between a wizard and a warlock?” Matthias asked.
“Warlocks are basically bad and want to use their magic to harm others or for their own personal gain, whereas wizards generally practice good magic.”
“So, Lord Voldemort is a warlock and Harry is a wizard,” one of the other alphas said, referring to the Harry Potter series.
When everyone turned to look at him, he shrugged his shoulders and grinned. “My kids love the series, and we have to watch all eight movies at least once every six months.”
Everyone laughed and then turned back to business.
“Marvin, can you pinpoint exactly where on the map you found Adam?” Zac asked.
He nodded.
“Good, then we’ll map out every possible location further up on the mountain where the lair could possibly be hidden,” Zac said. “We’ll keep looking, but we have to keep in mind that she likely put a spell on it that prevents anyone but the witches from finding it.”
“We might be able to tail one of them up there,” Matthias said. “Although, whoever is following her would have to be very careful because the witch could turn around and kill them in a second.”
“We’ll do both,” Lucius said. “We’ll try to pinpoint possible locations based on where Adam was found, and we’ll try tailing a witch. We’ll have to figure out which one of the six would be the least likely to figure out she’s being followed.”
“Once we find her lair, we’ll have to figure out how to disable any charms, spells, and booby traps she might have placed and actually breach the premises,” Matthias said.
“I’ll ask Jennifer about that,” Lucius said. “I’m sure she’ll be able to come up with something that we could use.”
They continued working out the plans on how to proceed. They all had to find her before another youngling went missing and before Marsden’s spell was complete.
He and Ian went back to the wolf shifter pack’s den.
“Something has to give,” Ian said. “Hopefully sooner rather than later.”
“You’re right. Make sure that every parent and youngling knows that under no circumstances are the younglings to go out on the mountain without an adult with them. As a matter of fact, it might be a good idea for all of the pack members to have at least one partner with them when they decide to shift up there,” Zac said.
“I’m on it, Alpha,” Ian said, leaving the office.
Tami stuck her head in the door and said, “You’ve had a ton of calls from people who are worried. I took care of most of them, but there are a few who insisted on talking to you.”
“There aren’t any pups or adults missing are there?” he asked, worriedly.
“None that have been reported,” she said. “I think that they are all scared and have questions.”
