His dad just grunted and walked away.

Howlers’ was busy that night. Olivia seemed to almost be running everywhere she went.

She stopped by to refill his tea and he winked at her and said, “What’s a man got to do to get some real service around here?”

“Do you want me to cut your chicken up for you and hand feed you? I could make those airplane noises and you could open your hanger and let the airplane land like Mamas do with their babies,” she said.

“That would be awesome,” Zac said.

“I can see it now. The alpha of the almighty Nightshade wolf shifter pack sitting at the table, while the waitress feeds him and makes airplane sounds.” She laughed.

“Yeah, I’ll have someone else feeding me grapes and another person waving a palm leaf over my head. Everyone will know who the real royalty is.”

“Do you realize how dumb this conversation is?” Olivia asked, laughing.

“Maybe, but it made you smile,” Zac said. “I like it when you smile.”

“You’re sweet,” she said. “I’ve got someone waving at me. Gotta go.”

She rushed off to take care of other customers.

He was done eating and ready to go when she dropped back by. As usual, she protested taking a tip.

“I’m tipping you for serving me, not serving me.” He laughed. “Your professional and personal life are separate.”

“I would hope so,” Olivia said, shaking her head.

Olivia’s scent tantalized him as he tried to sleep. It wasn’t overwhelming. It was just a hint of her essence that tickled his senses.

“Maybe I should just ask her to go through the mating ceremony with me. It would get Dad and Tami off my back. It would protect her from Declan and Marsden. Not even that evil witch would dare mess with the alpha queen. Hopefully, it would be enough to make Declan decide to back off,” Zac reasoned with himself. “I’m sure she’s my fated mate, so we may as well go through the ceremony since it is inevitable.”

Even though a mating ceremony made sense and would solve a lot of problems, he couldn’t go through with it. The time wasn’t right for either of them.

Olivia’s stomach was growling when she woke up the next morning. Maple iced donuts sounded perfect. As a matter of fact, the more she thought about them, the more she craved them.

The donut shop was down the street. She looked over the different goodies and thought, I don’t know if Zac’s eaten, but he might like a treat even if he has.

To be honest, Olivia just wanted to see him. She was almost terrified at how drawn she felt toward him. Her soul told her what her head wasn’t sure it was ready to accept. Olivia was falling in love with Zac.

She ordered a couple different types of pastries and a couple cups of coffee and went to his office.

Tami was sitting at her desk in front of his office. Her skirt was a little short for the office and rode up her thigh. Her blouse was unbuttoned and left nothing to the imagination. The wolf shifter looked more like she was there to get laid than she was to work.

“Good morning, Tami. I’m here to see Zac,” Olivia said, smiling at the woman. “I brought him some coffee and pastries. There’s one for you, too, if you want one.”

“Oh, it’s you. He’s busy. Much too busy for you,” Tami said. “Just leave that here. I’ll make sure that he gets them.”

Olivia had a sneaking suspicion that if she left the goodies for Zac, they would just end up in the garbage.

“I’ll just call him,” Olivia said, setting down the bag in her hand and reaching into her pocket.

Tami narrowed her eyes and pointed a finger at her, the long red painted nail almost touching Olivia’s chest. “You really need to just leave him alone. Get back into your broken down hoopty mobile and go back to whatever hole you crawled out of. Everyone knows that he’s supposed to be searching for a mate. He should be looking for one within the pack. The last thing that he needs is some rag-tag omega from a different group distracting him,” Tami said, smacking her lips together.

“You’re a pleasant one, aren’t you?” Olivia said. “I’m sure you’ll be kind enough to let him know that I stopped by.”
