“I’ll talk to her, and so will Sean and Jade. Surely, between the four of us, we can convince her that staying with you is a good idea.”

“Hopefully,” Zac said.

Olivia stood in the shower, the hot water pouring over her body, as she thought about Zac. She had never meant to get involved with anyone when she came to Angel’s Creek. Yet, here she was, falling in love with the alpha.

“Who the hell am I trying to kid,” she said. “I am in love with him.”

A million butterflies exploded in her stomach as the realization hit her. His scent filled the room, and her soul tingled as she pictured Zac’s face and thought about how she felt when she was around him. He made her laugh and made her feel safe. Then, of course, was the way he made her feel, physically.

She slid down the cool tiled wall until she was sitting in the bathtub. Her knees were drawn up to her chest, and she had wrapped her arms around her legs. This was not part of her plan.

“I can’t believe I fell in love with the alpha of a clan I don’t really belong to,” she muttered.

Sean, Jade, and Zac had assured her that she was a part of the pack simply because they cared about her so much. However, she still felt like it wasn’t her pack. Her old pack didn’t feel like hers, either.

“What did Zac mean when he asked me about fated mates? Does he, by any chance, think that I’m his fated mate?” Olivia asked herself.

She wanted to go down to his office and ask him if he thought that she was his fated mate but was terrified. What if he told her no? Although she was certain that he cared about her, that didn’t translate into love.

“Even if he does love me, how could he go through the mating ceremony with me? He’s the alpha. I’m just a runaway nobody. Tami was right when she called me an omega,” Olivia said.

She knew Zac well enough to know that if he really wanted to go through the mating ceremony with her, he wouldn’t let conventions stop him. He would do what he wanted to do regardless of what other people thought.

A brief thought crossed her mind that she should take a step back. She came here out of panic, she met Zac, and things had been moving pretty fast.

“Do I even know who I really am, apart from being betrothed to Declan and the potential new luna of our pack?”

She remembered that Zac had asked her about her dreams for the future, but she had none, besides the vague idea of being a mate and mother. Now, she had the opportunity for something more.

Her fingers started to web and the water was getting cold, so she reluctantly got out of the shower and dried off. The walls seemed to be closing in on her.

Needing some fresh air, Olivia drove to the mountain and shifted. Since Marsden and her crew had been captured, she decided that it would be safe.

It was a beautiful day. There was no hint of the ugliness that had taken place over the last few months. The beauty of the forest and the innocence of all that lived within it was such a contrast to the evil that had existed in its midst.

In spite of the fact that Marsden had been captured, Olivia couldn’t help but be hypervigilant. She kept looking over her shoulder to make sure she wasn’t being followed. Her head turned sharply with every rustle of the leaves or snap of a twig. She went back to her hotel room feeling more stressed than when she left.

Looking around the room, Olivia sighed heavily. “I can’t live in this room forever.”

Zac had offered to let her stay at his place, but that didn’t feel right, unless they were at least betrothed. It could get really awkward if they decided to stop seeing each other romantically.

“I guess I could get an apartment,” Olivia said. “I think I have enough saved for that.”

She checked her email. She had one from Sandra.

Declan’s father was in a bad car accident yesterday. He’s blaming it on the curse that you caused. He’s not taking into consideration that his father had been drinking.

Olivia rubbed her face and replied, Just like a narcissist. They can’t take any responsibility for their own actions. They always have to put the blame on something else. There wasn’t even a mention of a curse in the prophecy.

After a few minutes, Sandra replied. I know this and you know this, but we both know how Declan is. He said he was going to kill you in front of the entire pack. The fact that you got away is a slap in his face. He has told everyone in the pack he was going to find you and kill you.

Growling in the back of her throat, she closed her eyes and sighed.

This is so stupid. Thanks for the heads up. Love you.
