“I’ll stop when it’s over,” he yelled.

“Mark, Damian, Jake, stop this. You know this isn’t right,” Olivia screamed.

They seemed to loosen their grip for just a second and then said, “He’s our alpha. We have to obey.”

With an evil laugh, Declan balled up his fist again and hit Olivia square in the face. Darkness crowded in from the sides, and then everything went black.

Zac’s phone rang. It was Olivia. He was about to answer it when there was a knock on the door.

Bill, a wolf shifter who owned a ranch just outside of town, stood in his doorway. “Can I talk to you for a minute?” he asked.

“Sure, take a seat,” Zac said.

“I told you that I’ve been losing cattle and I thought that it was my neighbor,” Bill said. “I put up some trail cams and I have proof.”

Bill pulled out his computer and showed Zac several pictures of his neighbor roping some of the cows and pulling them into a trailer in the middle of the night.

“Let’s call the sheriff, since your neighbor is a mundane,” Zac said.

The older man took his sweet time arriving. He looked at the pictures and said that it was proof enough. Bill needed to come down to the station to answer some questions, and then they would put out an arrest warrant for the neighbor.

After they left, Zac grabbed a granola bar and a root beer. He had almost forgotten that Olivia had called until his phone buzzed, reminding him that he had a voice mail. He listened to both of them. In the first one, Olivia told him about her message from Sandra.

His blood ran cold when he heard the second one. Olivia screamed and he could hear some thumping. He could hear Olivia’s voice talking to other people. It sounded as though her room was being torn apart.

Zac ran out of his office, bellowing for Ian.

“What’s wrong, Alpha?” he asked.

“Olivia’s in trouble. I think that Declan found her.”

Ian called several other members of the pack, including Sean, and told them to meet him and Zac at the hotel.

Zac’s heart sank when he ran into the front lobby. Furniture was broken, and the door that separated the lobby from behind the desk was shredded.

Benny was laying on the floor. His face had been clawed, and he looked like he had been kicked and beaten by several people.

“What happened?” Zac asked, kneeling by the man.

Ian was already on his phone, calling for the pack’s doctor.

“Olivia,” he moaned. “There were five of them looking for her.”

“Do you know where they took her?” Zac asked, the fear evident in his voice.

“One of them was joking about making her a sacrifice to the volcano,” Benny moaned. “I tried to stop them. She’s a good girl.”

“You did great. Did they say what volcano?” Zac asked.

“No,” Benny whispered.

“We have the doctor on the way. Alan, stay here with him,” Zac said.

A tall, thin, red-haired man stepped forward, sat down next to Benny, and cradled his head in his lap.

“I’ll watch over him, Alpha,” Alan promised.
