“The Black Rose isn’t responsible for my father's death.”

“What?” Bruno asked, surprised.

“He’s the best explanation for all of this. Who else would not only want to take down the Lucas Cosa Nostra but has the balls to do it, if not the Black Rose?” Luna said, her voice rising.

“It is not…the Black Rose.”

“How can you be sure?” Bruno asked.

I faced them both. “Because I am the Black Rose.”

Their eyes widened as they stared at me in disbelief.

Bruno let loose a flood of profanity while Luna stared at me in confusion, revelation, and finally, disappointment.

“You wouldn’t,” she said.

I inhaled a deep breath. “My position never had anything to do with you. My vex was with Dameon. But I didn’t kill him—I would never…” I cracked my neck, and Bruno began pacing in circles.

“Dominic…”

“That’s why the Black Rose was never seen or struck under my watch,” Bruno murmured, putting the pieces together. He stopped pacing. “Because it was you all of this time.”

“You both know how much I loathed Dameon for pushing me into this life. So, I did what he asked, but I also caused him hell because of it. If you want to kill me, do it now.”

Their eyes widened, and Luna cursed me to hell. “How dare you drop something like this on us, then tell us to murder you! We are not like you! I am not like you!”

I nodded, and she approached me but stopped before she struck my face.

“Do it,” I urged. “I’ve failed you. I failed Dameon. I failed the Lucas Cosa Nostra.”

“You son of a bitch!” She lifted her hand, but it trembled, and she fell to her knees and wailed.

Squatting, I pulled Luna in my arms as she shook and cried on my shoulder.

“You could’ve talked to me! We were supposed to be best friends!”

“No one could bear the weight of my ire, sister. Not you, not Bruno, and I consider you both my friends. You know I don’t have friends. But I love you two, and that is why I am honest with you now.”

She cried, and Bruno swiped his face and began pacing again.

“What the fuck are we supposed to do with this information, Dominic?”

I watched Bruno as I held Luna. “You can reveal my betrayal, take my place, and you would be the don of the Lucas Cosa Nostra.”

Luna looked up at me, shocked. “You would be killed. How is that a solution?”

“It’s not!” Bruno shouted. “That’s never happening.”

“So, you just want to give up?” Luna asked. “Our father was killed! You must avenge him!”

“I can’t avenge him if I am locked away.”

“The only one talking this way is you. Neither of us is going to tell anyone. We’re going to pretend like you never told us, aren’t we, Bruno?”

“We are. But you can't kill anyone else using our signature, Dominic. You can’t continue to be the Black Rose.”

“I don’t plan to be the Black Rose as he was but as he was meant to be under the Lucas Cosa Nostra officially.”
