“Wendy had a hot mic when she thought the cameras weren’t rolling any longer.”

“Ooh, I like where this is heading.” After a quick recap of the content, Jenn added, “I’ll have it by tomorrow, come hell or high water. What do you want me to do with it?”

“Leak it anonymously, on the condition they’ll share it in full.”

“I’ll make it work. There’s someone who owes me a favor.” She paused and then asked, “And Katie? Any progress?”

“I’m still working on it.”

“See that you do. I like her. And she’s good for you.”

“Trust me, I know. Make sure to send me a text when the leaked file goes live.”

“Of course. Anything else?”

“Yes. I think Wendy threatened Katie with something. See if you can find that out for me, too.”

“Gee, you don’t do small requests, do you?”

“No, and I have one more.” After I described it, I finished with, “Help me pull all this off, and you’ll definitely get a raise.”

“Hmm. I’d almost do it for the sheer joy of seeing Wendy taken down a few pegs. But I won’t pass up extra cash.”

I smiled. “Thanks, Jenn. I do appreciate you.”

“I know. Otherwise, I wouldn’t stick around. I’ll text you updates.”

After she hung up, my mood lightened a little. Not much, but the first step of my plan was in motion.

Now, I just had to get the others in place, too.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

Katie

The next morning, I was still sleeping when someone pounded on my door, and I jolted awake. “What the hell?”

Cassie’s voice came through the door. “I’m coming in, so cover up.” And then she barged into my room.

Rubbing my eyes, I asked, “What’s so important that you have to wake me up at the crack of dawn?”

She sat on my bed. “Katie, you have to see this. It’s about Wendy.”

I rolled over. “Ugh, no. If I don’t hear anything about Wendy fucking Webster ever again, I’ll die a happy woman.”

“No, trust me—you want to see this.”

I pulled a pillow over my head. “Go away.”

“Fine, we’ll do it this way.”

Her phone soon blasted at full volume, and the voice of the woman who’d ruined my life now echoed around the room.

“Thank fuck you nixed the idea of having some fans interview us.”

An unfamiliar female voice said, “I still think it would’ve been a nice touch.”

“No. The less time I have to spend with those cretins, the better.”
