I was still sore, but that was nothing compared to the twinge in my chest.

He took his time with me, lips distracting me as he stretched me with one finger, taking his time until that one digit in me felt so good that Iwantedanother and another. It wasn’t like my time with En. This one was willing to go slow, allowing me to adjust and control the pace, allowing me totellhim what I wanted and what I didn’t want.

The third digit made me pull away from the kiss, eyes closed and forehead pressed to his chest, his heartbeat lulling me and distracting me just as much as his thick, heavenly scent. This sort of intimacy was still painful, still made it seem as though I was being ripped apart.

Eon's fingers pressed on my inner walls, and my muscles locked, breath catching in my throat when his other hand rolled down my spine. His lips latched on to one of my twitching ears just as his fingers pushed down, stroking something soft in me. I stilled, muscles clamping and spasming before my vision suddenly fogged, and I was finally breaking.

But even as I broke and floated, his hands kept me together, fingers still moving in me despite the sudden oversensitivity of my body. I trembled uncontrollably, rolling my hips against his fingers to chase that wave of euphoria that washed away my pain.

Eon's eyes were smouldering, gaze heavy and intense on me. My eyes were still blurry, but it was because they were now filled with tears of rapture. I couldn’t look away from him, taking in his warm stare and his parted lips as he breathed raggedly. His earthly scent was so palpable and so intoxicating, and it was mine because it mixed so pleasantly withmyscent.

“Mine,” I voiced my thoughts, fingers burying in his soft hair and pulling him towards me, lips melting with his. I kissed him with need, with urgency, my grasp on his hair pressing him closer until his beating heart sang the same song as mine, the two calling out to each other yet unable to meet because of the flesh and bones that separated them.

“Yours,” he whispered against my lips, breath mixing with mine and warming my skin, making me burn hotter than before.

And when he smiled, he left me breathless.

Eon slid inside me a little easier than the first time, yet I still hissed, clutching his shoulders and using him to straighten my previously relaxed form.

And just like before, he couldn’t fit all the way.

Mild irritation flashed across his face before he shook it away, choosing to focus on me as he rested his large hands on my hips and steadied me. Eon didn’t move me, only kept his hands on me for support as I lifted my hips and lowered them, sinking as low as I could without feeling like I would truly break.

But when he saw that I was struggling, when he saw how badly I shook from the effort of trying to take him and maintain the rhythm, he leaned into me, placing one hand on the curve of my spine and the other behind my head as he lowered me to the cold stone ground. The action caused him to nudge inside me a little deeper, uncomfortably so, and I winced, looking up at him with unsure eyes.

But he dipped his head and licked from my jaw to just under my left eye in a slow, savouring swipe. He nuzzled my nose, nipped my chin, then my bottom lip, staring deep into my eyes before he carefully pulled his hips back. I whined, latching on to his forearms, but he voiced a low call before sliding back into me. Slowly. Indulgently. Like he didn’t care that we didn’t properly fit together the way mates were supposed to.

His eyes never strayed from mine, hips languidly rolling into me, breaths shallow and ragged. Perspiration dotted his skin, his body trembling from the strain. My hands roamed his endless torso before hooking behind his neck, drawing him closer so I could lick the sweat off his neck.

Eon’s chest vibrated with a rumble. A purr. Nuzzling my neck, he mirrored my gesture and dragged his hot tongue up my throat to taste my skin, licking higher until he reached my left ear and latched on to it with careful teeth. He tugged, nipped, and licked, toying with me until I was writhing and gasping.

I couldn’t breathe despite inhaling and exhaling through my opened mouth. Eon couldn’t either, his lips opened as he panted, eyes hooded and glazed. His big palm squeezed my face, long fingers curling around my head and tugging me closer so his forehead could once again touch mine. His other hand kept one of my thighs up and to the side, kept me open so he could roll into me.

“Are y-you… hah… ha-happy?” I whispered, nearly screwing my eyes shut at the way his thick cock dragged in and out of me.

I loathed that I couldn’t please my mate with this small, weak body that wasn't made for him. Loathed the possibility that I wouldn’t be able to satisfy him the way he did me.

Against all odds—against our species and our biology and our instincts, our souls had managed to form a bond that defied nature itself.

Predator and prey.

Fire and water.

But Eonsmiled, lips stretching and eyes softening.

“You’re with me,” he breathed before capturing my lips in another sweet kiss, and I let out a quiet sound at his low, content tone.

That was his answer.

And it was everything.

I stirred from my sleep with a quiet yawn, whining softly at the dull throb between my legs. It was something I would have to grow used to, because I wouldn’t deprive Eon, En or myself of intimacy simply because it gave me a little discomfort.

I snuggled deeper under the fur blanket Eon had traded for me. It was to compensate for when he couldn’t be there to offer his body heat. I skimmed my hand over the soft material underneath me, recalling the bed of leaves En had made for me.

The warmth and light of the fire made the cave comfortable and bright. Judging by the dim light filtering through the gaps in the other wall, I assumed it was somewhere in the afternoon.
