“Rabbit?” he guessed, and I bit my tongue, wondering how he knew.

He repeated the process; he bit his palm, mumbledrabbitas his blood dripped on the rock, then lit the liquid with his palm.

A fluffy black rabbit with blazing eyes hopped out of the fire.

He resembled Keleth; all black fur, eyes swirling orange and yellow.

I was mesmerised, watching as the rabbit licked his paws and tilted his head down, cleaning his hanging ears. My fingersitchedto touch him.

Pride bubbled inside me. My mate was exceptionally powerful and equally beautiful, and he was all mine.

And his scent was so strong. I was burning and huffing again, staring up at him with questioning eyes as his scent thickened in the air. The water around me bubbled, steam rising as I burned hotter.

“This is another ability of mine.” His intense stare pinned me in place, made my insides clench and twist and melt. His lips softened into a sensual smile, and I found my eyes drooping slightly, lids suddenly too heavy.

“My scent acts as an aphrodisiac,” he continued, gaze hot and lips smirking now. “I can control its strength and presence. The more I give, the more you’ll feel.”

No wonder I was constantlyenthralledand needy.

I huffed with a glare when the intensity of his scent lessened, becoming a faint breeze that I could sniff without wanting to push him on his back and demand his attention.

And, of course, he laughed at me.

I wasn’t bothered; I enjoyed hearing him laugh, so I played with the water while he watched me, the sun slowly fading.

“I’m sorry.”

I pushed away from him and angled my head up, frowning. He rarely apologised—I couldn’t recall a time when hehadapologised, other than that one time he accidentally burned my hands. I didn’t know what made him upset, why his previously entertained voice had become quiet and soft.

Eon leaned closer, pressed his lips to my forehead and held me tight for a moment before he drew back.

“You’ll always be in danger here.” His hand holding my palm squeezed, and his other one cupped my cheek, his thumb lightly rubbing the skin under my eye. “Others will try to eliminate the intruder.”

I sighed, lowering my gaze but pressing my skin against his palm, my unoccupied hand rising to keep his hand on my face.

“I can protect myself,” I mumbled.

“I know.” There was a smile in his tone. “But you won’t need to.”

I raised my head, meeting his stare. “Why?”

“Because,” he whispered, voice quiet yet roughening into a guttural growl at the corners. “I will annihilate anyone who dares to come close to you.”

His eyes began to change. Red ink spilled on the clean white canvas. But the white resisted and remained in control, so the red could only take over one eye until there were two different eyes staring back at me.

One was ruby-red with a dark pupil and flecks of black around it. Eon’s eye.

The other was entirely red with an inferno burning fiercely…En.

Grinning wide, I placed both hands on his face and pulled him close, pressing my lips to his. They were unusually warm, and it was a sign that this time, it wasn’t just Eon. It was evident in his slightly rough touches and his demanding lips, but I didn’t mind.

Just like the moth when she risked her life to feel the flame.

He was my flame, and I was his moth.

Predator and prey.

But he was my world.

My beginning and my end.
