Eon tilted his head, holding me close to him.
“This.” Keeping one hand on his chest, I pinched the silky fabric of his black robe with my other. “I have not seen you wearing this before. Are you cold?”
The corners of his mouth twitched. His ruby eyes shone in the darkness as if they were glowing. For once, they weren’t blazing with that fire that seemed to constantly sway inside them.
“Do I feel cold?” he asked, though he sounded amused.
I lowered my gaze to his chest. “You’re warm.” My fingertips brushed the skin over his thumping heart, fascination lighting inside me when his strong muscles flexed under my touch. “Always warm. I adore how you’re always warm.”
Keeping one arm around me, the Spider nudged my head up with his other, his touch gentle, ever so careful. “I adore how you’re in my arms.” He lowered his head and lightly rubbed his nose against mine.
I tried to suppress my giggle, but he heard it, and it made him smile.
His smile.
“I adore your smile,” I breathed, staring at his lips. His smile was the most beautiful thing I had ever laid my eyes on.Hewas the most beautiful thing I had ever laid my eyes on. Scary and beautiful and dangerous and safe. Too much to contain in words.
That beautiful smile dimmed a little. “I…”
A blink and I was on my back with him hovering over me, his large silk robe falling around us like a dark waterfall as it stayed on his broad shoulders.

He stared into my eyes, red against blue.
Slowly, he lowered himself until his upper body pressed on me, his skin smooth and so warm. He supported himself with his forearms, then he gently placed his lips on mine.
I melted, I shivered and I was lost.
I was lost in his heat and my racing heartbeat. That buzzing feeling was back but stronger, making my bodyandbreaths tremble. I was lost in his light touch and his soft lips moving against mine like they were whispering wordless secrets to me. Each caress heated my cool skin and muddled my mind. He was close—closer than I remembered him ever being, but the urge to pull him even closer gripped me hard and shook my thoughts.
He was too close. My pulse was racing too fast and too hard—too loud. His touch was stirring me in a way I couldn’t understand.
“No… stop.” I pulled my lips away from his and turned my face to the side, catching my breath. The sudden disconnection made his lips press against my cheek. Both his lips and my face were warm, and my own lips tingled. Instinctively, I darted my tongue and ran it over my bottom lip.
“What is it?” He licked my left cheek slowly and repeated the action. My body shivered wildly but it wasn’t cold. My pulse was still in chaos.
“Why do you do this?” I murmured.
Eon froze above me. He pulled back and gently held my jaw, turning my head to look at him. “You don’t know?”
I shook my head.
His brows furrowed, an expression between anger and hurt taking over his features before he shook his head. He rolled off of me and landed on his side beside me, covering me with his silk robe. It was like a huge blanket on my little form.
I blinked at his silence. “So…”
“What we’re doing is intimate.” He gazed at me, a storm of emotions swirling in his eyes. I couldn’t even begin to describe one.
“Intimate?” I frowned. "As in friendly?"
The corners of his lips curled up into an amused smirk. His big hands reached for me, then he hauled and placed me on his stomach. Eon gripped my waist securely, and he looked up at me with an emotion I still couldn’t unravel.
“You can’t be touched the way I touch you by any other male but me, and I can’t let any other female touch me the way you would. See?”
He pulled me down to him and snaked his huge palm behind my neck before our lips met, moving together slowly. His warm tongue caressed my bottom lip, an action so foreign it had me making a low sound of excitement.
Much to my dismay, he pulled away too soon, leaving me in a swirling daze as I stared at his lips. I lifted my eyes to his reluctantly. The way our noses and lips brushed had me trembling with too much energy. Too much excitement.
