His voice was so low and cruel, so deep and so threatening. It took on a rough, guttural quality I’d never heard from him before. I lowered my gaze and whined, nodding as best as I could as I tried to get my heart under control.

Even when he’d been mean to me before, this was a different side of Eon. Almost like a… different person.

I didn’t doubt his threat. Frightening as his warning was, he could do so much worse.

His hand applied slight pressure and I winced.

Right. He was expecting my gratitude.

I placed my small palms on his lower abdomen and looked up at him. I raised a hand, not managing to reach his chin, but he understood what I was aiming to do. He leaned down enough for me to pull him by his neck, connecting our lips together. Even though I meant to thank him, he took control of the gesture, coaxing my lips apart with his hot tongue so he could slip it into my mouth and tangle it with mine.

Sometimes, I got the sense that he did this for a reason—that there was a purpose as to why he was always trying to familiarise me with his heat, his taste, him. It brought him closer, filled my head and senses with him, but it had to be more than that.

Before he could become too warm, I pulled away, attempting to catch my breath. A smile curled my tingling lips, and words slipped out regardless of their insignificance to him. “Thank you.”

But he smiled, calm and pleased as his thumbs stroked under my eyes, and the sight made my pulse stumble. The fire in his eyes had died down. He bent forward, licking my left cheek, slow and long with his hot tongue.

This gesture had to mean something, too.

I looked towards the web he had designed for me and my smile widened. “Is the web made from the strong, elastic silk or the sticky thread that traps your prey?” I asked as I returned my gaze to Eon, catching him staring at me.

He frowned, and it was more an expression of worry than anything else. “You want to rest?”

Worriedandready to aid me. My smile turned into a giddy grin as I nodded. “Withyou.”

He rewarded me with another smile that put the moon to shame. As he took my palm and guided me to the tree, I commanded the blue dove to stay with my companion, ensuring Eon heard everything.

“Wait.” I stopped and tugged on his hand, urging him to stop. “Will I get stuck to it?”

“No.” He dragged me to him, crashing our bodies together. He lifted my thin arms to his thick neck, then lifted me and urged me to fold my legs around him. “I made it from the elastic thread. I figured at some point you’d want to watch our sky.”

I beamed, stretching up to brush my lips to his strong jaw. He huffed, but I noticed the tips of his ears turning a faint shade of pink.

I stared with wide eyes.

“Don’t eye me like that,” he warned sharply, and I laughed at his attempt to come across as threatening.

“You are so beautiful!” I gushed, cupping his ears with my hands and lightly pulling on them. They were not as long or as pointy as mine, but their shape and arch still mesmerised me.

He hissed in irritation, glaring down at me. I giggled, and he clenched his teeth and looked ahead as he placed his palms on the tree. He looked up, then he hoisted himself as if he was crawling on the ground.

I leaned up and kissed his cheek this time, watching as the rosy colour on the tips of his ears spread until even his angular cheeks were painted the same.

“Pixie!” He flashed his extended fangs before he threw me onto the web, causing me to bounce a few times. He came towards me and gripped my jaw, looking at me with a swaying fire in his eyes.

I smiled. “I adore you.”

His firm grip on me loosened until his hand slowly dropped. He looked away from me and towards the waterfall, his expression almost a sulk.

I threw myself at him when he reclined beside me, landing on top of his hard chest. Eon watched me with moody eyes and a displeased frown.

“You are so strong.” I kissed his cheek, and I watched with interest how his fingers twitched and then slowly curled into fists. “You are so beautiful.” I kissed his jaw. “You are so sweet.” I gazed into his eyes and watched as they began to burn. My smile softened. “You aremine.”

The fire in his lovely eyes swayed to the side violently, as if it faltered—as if it was extinguished.

He sat up and pushed his head between my breasts.

And he purred.
