His eyes narrowed, their fire flaring a little as he repeated, “Midnight.”

I couldn’t stay that long. Faelyn would look for me much before then; once he discovered that I was not in my room, he wouldnotbe pleased.

Then again, I couldn’t go home in the state I was in.

“Please, En.” I closed my eyes, so helpless and completely out of options.

En’s mercy or nothing.

I wondered which was the better option.

En was silent for a moment, whether he was thinking or simply watching me, I didn’t know.

“Midnight,” he stated again, his tone heavy with finality.

I opened my eyes when his hands were on me, carefully picking me up from the ground. Even with how careful he was being, he wasn’t careful enough. I ended up grimacing and holding back whimpers as he held me close and with each step he took.

Towards the ridge leading to his cave.

“No,” I mumbled, lightly shaking my head. When he ignored me, I moved my right hand up and placed my small claws against his throat in a warning. “I said no.”

The arms around me tightened. I let out a pained hiss as he made contact with where I was severely in pain.

He stopped, sighed heavily, then moved to where the waterfall was—the one falling from the mouth of his cave.

“Let’s clean you first,” he said as he slowly placed me on the ground.

“Put me in the water,” I told him with a cough. “It’ll give me some strength.”

He shrugged, placed his hands under my arms, and lifted me up with ease. Then he walked to the edge of the large pool and stepped in. I looked down with wide eyes, watching his legs walk further and further until the water reached exactly under my chin.

It only reached around his midriff.

I rolled my eyes at his taunting grin, then I ignored him to focus on gaining some energy. I closed my eyes and, as I breathed in deeply, drew some water into me, soaking it up like the roots of a plant would. Not too much, just enough to help me stand on my feet and hear things clearly again.

The rest was in his hands.

When I was energised enough, En dragged us out of the water and towards a tree close to the web Eon had created for me—us. His legs released some steam; he was raising his body temperature enough to quickly dry himself.

Without warning, En pulled me close and threw me over his shoulder with my face towards his endless back. A scream stuck in my throat, the result being a high-pitched, prolonged sound of fright.

A pleased huff was all I heard before everything went out of balance, and this time I shrieked. I dug my claws into his skin to prevent falling, uncaring whether he was hurt or not because he was not Eon. This one enjoyed tormenting me, enjoyed seeing me panicked and afraid.

Was he climbing with me on his back?!

“I am injured!” I complained loudly.

“You are not dead.”

The message in his words silenced me.

When we were high enough—so high I had to close my eyes—I heard rustling. Then I was inside the tree, sitting on the flattened top of the trunk under the canopy of thick green leaves that covered us from above and on every side. They surrounded us like walls—like we were in our own little world.

Like a home.

A nest.

En didn’t allow me enough time to admire the area as he pulled me into him once again. He leaned down as he placed me on his lap, grasping my jaw with his fingers and lightly moving it from side to side. Most of the damage seemed to be on the left side because he turned my head to the right, leaned forward, and licked from my jaw to just below my eye.
