“You’ve seemed tense since you talked to my dad, and now we’re at a random cabin that he had stocked for us. I know it’s the whole Nathan thing, but—”

“I promise you that’s all it is. I’m just waiting to hear from your dad that it’s over,” I say with a sigh.

One look at Olivia and it’s obvious she’s picking up on my tension. “We’re fine, Olivia. Your dad is the only one who knows where we are.”

I grip her hand and lead her to the back deck, picking up the steaks on the way out. Olivia watches me as she strips and she steps into the tub, alternating her gaze between me and the sunset on the horizon.

“It’s breathtaking.” She gazes at the skyline and mountains in wonder, but I can’t take my eyes off of her. There’s a knot in my throat that I try to swallow away, but I can’t. It’s here and now that I know what I want. It’s her. It won’t be anyone else, ever. It’s her.

“It certainly is,” I say as I keep my eyes on her. She gives me a shy smile when she catches me staring.

We eat in companionable silence, trading smiles and glances. Olivia moans as she eats her steak, perhaps more unabashedly this time. By the time we finish loading the dishwasher, the sun has drifted far behind the clouds. We settle on the couch. It’s so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and now the windows feel eerie.

“Want to watch something?” I grab the remote.

She shakes her head no, yawning loudly. “I could sleep.”

I help her up, leading her to the bedroom. I watch her undress, and my cock grows with interest, but I’m as tired as she is. She’s asleep almost as soon as her head hits the pillow, leaving me alone with my thoughts. It’s barely nine pm, and this is the earliest we’ve gone to bed in weeks.

Finally, I succumb to a yawn as my phone vibrates with a notification.

Nathan: Up for a visit?

I bolt upwards, my stomach on the floor. I breathe a sigh of relief when I see my location settings are off. What a stupid fucking way to die. I step out and dial James’ number.

“Tomas.” He’s surprised to hear from me, especially this late.

“I just got a message I thought you’d be interested in. Nathan just texted me to ask if I was up for a visit. I haven’t responded. I figure you have the house under detail.”

“Don’t answer. Let him show up. I’m sure he’s brazen enough to do it.”

“Goodnight, James. Let me know if you hear anything.”

“You too, Tomas. Take care of my girl.”

“I will.”

To my surprise, Nathan doesn’t text me again. Dawn breaks and I feel bleary-eyed, but somewhat relieved that he didn’t show up here in the night. Olivia grinds her ass against my morning wood.

“Well, good morning to you, too.” She opens her eyes, adjusting to the light.

“No breakfast in bed this morning? You’re slacking.”

“Careful, Olivia,” I warn. “Or are you trying to provoke the beast?”

“Have I met him yet?”

“Not entirely.” I raise my brows and give a mischievous smile.

“I’m going to make our coffee. I’ll be back with a mug.”

“Nah, I’ll come out with you.”

The day is bitterly cold and gloomy. The sky is threatening snow. Olivia is on the same wavelength as I am. “Any word on Nathan?”

“Not yet.”

“Wonder if we’ll be snowed in.” She gives me a conspiratorial grin.
