Sebastian took a deep breath, grinning as he allowed his gaze to fall to my feet and back up. “Goddamn, Big Red, I’ve missed you.”

“Who are you?” I asked as I took a single step closer.

He shrugged. “Just a city slicker looking for a new home.”

“Hmmm… And why do you need one?”

“Oh, because I gave up the one I had. You know, the fancy digs in Miami. I sold the cars and the yacht too.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yep.”

“What about the business?”

He scratched his head. “I still have controlling interest, but Jackson and I have plans on handling it from here. I kind of liked the weather.” He took two steps closer and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Jackson standing off to the side with a huge grin on his face.

“Oh, you do. Huh. And you think you’re welcome here?”

“Well, I was thinking maybe you could give me a job,” he said with a deep growl in his voice.

“Do you have any skills?” I was whispering at this point, my heart racing.

“Well, I do have this thing about jumping into burning buildings. And you might have heard I’m a horse whisperer.”

“Maybe I’ll give you a few tasks to handle, but you’re going to have to work really hard.”

When we were only a few inches apart, I was breathless.

“I think I can do that.” He closed the distance. “As long as you promise to be by my side the entire time.”

“Do you think you can handle me?” I heard Megan’s gasp from behind me. I couldn’t seem to stop trembling.

“Oh, I assure you that I can handle you and plan on doing that for the rest of my life, of our lives together. That will involve discipline.”

“Discipline?”

“Yep,” he said under his breath. “You’re required to obey me.”

“Does that mean you’re asking me to marry you?”

He swept me into his arms, crushing me against his body. “Yes, I am and I won’t take no for an answer.” As he captured my mouth, I slipped my arms around his neck, happier than I’d ever been in my life.

As Megan, George, and Jackson clapped, I clung to the man I loved, my heart fluttering.

I’d never believed I could be happy again or that I’d be able to trust anyone. Then a big city slicker had come along determined to change my life.

When he pulled away, the look in his eyes was full of love.

I knew that whatever happened in the future, we could face it together.

Through happiness and sorrow.

Fear and guilt.

Danger and joy.

We were stronger because we were together.

And because we’d dared take a chance on love.

He would forever be my city slicker, and I would forever be his Big Red. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The End
