I may or may not have let my eyes pointedly stare at his crotch when I said 'small enough,' but I wasn't going to admit it. Ever.

"You fucking bastard," he growled, and his hands curled into fists at his side. I should probably shut up now, especially since I couldn't use my magic or strength to harm humans.

I should've done that, and yet my mouth opened once more. "Careful, you might 'get the gay on you' if you touch me."

Welp, that might've been too much for the jerk. I squeezed my eyes shut and braced for the punch, but nothing came.

"Seriously, Ryk," Nico grumbled, and I opened my eyes to find Nico had blocked by grabbing the asshole's wrist. I wondered if he was shocked at Nico's strength, but I didn't get to ask since Dakota and Star picked that moment to appear.

"What's going on here?" Dakota asked as he stepped closer to us.

"None of your business," the asshole said, scowling at Dakota with a little less hostility. Was he intimidated by Dakota's size? That was funny considering as a human, Dakota was the weakest one of us.

"Well, since you're bothering my boyfriends, it is my business," Dakota said, and I couldn't help smiling widely at the title. I was Dakota's boyfriend. How cool!

"I thought you were with him," the asshole said, glancing at Star, who seemed happy to lean against a shelf and watch the drama unfold. Typical Star.

"I am. I'm also with them. Now take your hand back and get the fuck out of here before I break it for you," Dakota said in a low voice I'd never heard him speak in before, and my brows shot up at how scary he looked. Who would've thought the kind, patient Dakota had a side like this?

The asshole seemed to calculate his chances for a moment before he jerked his arm back, huffed, and stalked away, his lackey following close at his heels. I watched them leave with mostly curiosity in my mind, and I raised a brow when they both simultaneously clutched their stomachs just before they went out of view.

Knowing exactly who was responsible, I turned to Star. "What did you do to them?" I asked, and only then remembered whatever he'd done was magic, and he couldn't exactly talk about it in front of Dakota.

"I just glared at them real hard. Seemed to help," he answered easily, making Dakota laugh. I relaxed instantly, but I hated the shot of anxiety that had filled me at the thought that I'd messed up.

We really, really needed to tell Dakota. Soon.

"Do you need to get more stuff?" Dakota asked Nico, and he shook his head.

"We're done."

"Let's check out and go home, then."

Dakota and Nico each took a cart, leaving Star and me to follow behind.

"So, what did you do to them? We're not allowed to hurt humans, you know."

"I know," Star said with a smirk. "That's why I merely inconvenienced them. With explosive diarrhea."

A laugh burst out of me, and I clamped my palm onto my mouth to keep it from escaping even as I shook with suppressed laughter. Trust Star to come up with a creative solution.

"They bothered my boyfriends. They earned it," he said with a dark look, and I smiled widely as I wrapped my arms around one of his, hanging onto him.

"Aww, you're such a sweetheart."

Today, for the first time in centuries, I'd wished for my old job back so I could punish the asshole who'd thought he could raise a hand on my mates. If I had my way, I would've given him nightmares for the rest of his life, but that would be considered hurting a human, and my orders from Reece—Consort of Otherworld and my summoner—prohibited me from doing that. So I'd had to settle for the diarrhea option, though a part of me still wanted to hunt him down and make him pay.

I thought I'd hidden my anger pretty well back at the store, but the knowing looks Ryk kept shooting me told me he knew exactly how angry I was. I didn't know how I would've reacted if that human had actually managed to hit Nico or Ryk. It wouldn't have hurt them, of course, but just the thought of someone laying a hand on what was mine filled me with rage unlike anything I'd ever experienced before.

"Star, help me pick out the colors," Ryk said, grabbing my hand and dragging me deeper into the shelves before I could answer. Once we were out of view, Ryk pressed me into a shelf, almost knocking over the paint bottles stacked there.

"Careful!" I warned him, and he winced, then snapped his fingers. I assumed he'd frozen the paint bottles in place so they wouldn't fall no matter how much I moved. "What are you doing, Ryk?"

"I," he said, raising up on his tiptoes, "am trying to cheer you up. Nico and I are both okay. It was just a bunch of dumb humans. You don't need to be angry anymore."
