Before I could reply, Ryk pressed his mouth to mine, and all the anger burning in my chest evaporated, replaced by a warmth that felt a lot brighter. Grabbing his hips, I pulled him close as I kissed him back, picking him up into the air so we could kiss more easily. He seemed to have no problem hanging in midair as he continued kissing me, and I kissed him back enthusiastically, my earlier rage all but forgotten. How could a simple kiss do that?

"See? Told you they weren't picking out colors." Nico's voice broke us apart; we turned as one to see Nico and Dakota standing at the edge of the aisle.

Dakota chuckled softly, and my cheeks flushed without a thought as I placed Ryk back on solid ground.

"Hey, you two! Come help me with the colors. All Star's done is distract me," Ryk said, and my brows shot up.

"Oh, is that so? I was distracting you, huh?" I demanded, and he stuck his tongue out at me before jumping out of my reach.

"Dumbass," I said, though I was sure they could all hear the affection in my voice. I wasn't going to try to hide it, though. Not anymore.

For the next hour, we helped Ryk buy all his many, many art supplies. It was more fun than I'd thought it would be, mostly because the store had very few other patrons. The excitement on Ryk's face was pretty adorable too, and I enjoyed watching the way he reacted to different things.

When we finished, it took a lot of maneuvering to fit everything into the already stuffed trunk. If Dakota knew what we were, I could've used some magic to make the trunk bigger, but we still hadn't told him, so we had to manage instead. I still used some magic to make the things fit where they otherwise wouldn't have, though I made sure it wasn't too noticeable.

We really needed to tell Dakota everything, and soon. Now that we'd grown closer, I felt guilty about hiding a part of myself from him, and I was sure the others felt the same way.

Ryk had once again decided to sit up front, and he had Dakota engaged in a deep conversation about some painting Dakota had asked him to make.

Shifting closer to Nico, I turned to him and said in a low voice Dakota wouldn't be able to hear, "We need to tell him."

I didn't need to explain what I was referring to, and Nico nodded almost instantly. "I think so too."

"We don't have plans for tomorrow. How about we do it then?" I suggested. Our original plan had been the shopping trip, but since Nico had cleaned the attic earlier without Dakota realizing, we hadn't had as much to do on that front, and we'd ended up doing the shopping today.

"Sounds good," Nico said with a dip of his head, and Ryk gave me a nod from the rearview mirror. I hoped for all our sakes that Dakota would react favorably to the fact that we were all demons. The fact that he wasn't especially religious was in our favor, but I had a feeling it'd take some extreme measures to convince him we weren't playing a trick on him.

Then there was also the fact that he might freak out and break up with us once he knew, but the chances of that happening were low. Dakota was our fated mate, and even if he couldn't sense the bond between us, I was sure his feelings for us had grown over the past week just as rapidly as ours for him.

Once we got home, Dakota and I carried all the groceries in while Ryk took care of his art stuff. Nico, of course, started organizing the groceries the moment we placed the first of the many bags on the counter.

After we'd brought everything inside, Ryk declared he was going to try out his new supplies and disappeared into his room. The furniture Dakota and I had ordered would be delivered tomorrow, so he was still using his room for now.

Nico and Dakota were still busy organizing in the kitchen, and they didn't seem to need any help, so I went back to my room to change into my usual clothes, then decided a nap might be a good idea. For someone like me who didn't like to go out much, today had been exhausting, and I needed to recharge my batteries, especially if we were going to tell Dakota the truth tomorrow.

Dakota

"I think Star probably went up to his room to take a nap," Nico said as he placed the cheese and other perishables in the fridge. "He doesn't like going out much, and gets tired easily when he does."

"I can understand that," I said with a smile. "Still, I'm glad he came with us."

"Me too. Going out with everyone was pretty fun," Nico said with a small smile, and I couldn't help agreeing. Of course, it would've been even better if those homophobic assholes had kept to themselves, but despite that interruption, I'd had a great time with everyone.

Leaning back against the counter, I watched Nico gather up a few of the boxes before walking around me to reach the cabinet they were supposed to go in.

Thinking back to when those assholes had been bothering Nico and Ryk, I remembered how unafraid and unbothered they'd looked, even when the man had been about to punch Ryk. Nico had stopped that punch with a speed that'd surprised me, and I wondered just where Nico had learned to do that. What other secrets was he hiding behind that sweet exterior?

"Shit!" Nico grumbled, pulling me out of my thoughts.

He was up on his tiptoes, trying to open a cabinet that was just out of his reach. Smiling, I walked up behind him and reached for the door. "Here, let me."

Nico's body was warm and solid against my chest, and I couldn't stop myself from pressing into him a little as I opened the cabinet.

"What did you want to put in there?" I asked in a low voice, and he craned his neck to glance up at me, his brown eyes darker than usual.

"Um," he said, holding out a box of tea bags. Star was the only one of us who drank tea, and he usually made it for himself, so I supposed it made sense why Nico wanted to put it in a place he wouldn't be able to reach.

"Gotcha." Taking the box from him, I placed it in the cabinet. "Anything else?"
