"Mom!" Dakota exclaimed, his eyes going wide as Ryk let out a whoop of laughter.

"What? I'm curious. I've only ever read about poly relationships, so sue me if I'm a little nosy," she grumbled. "It sounds fun. Maybe your dad and I will give it a try. What do you say, honey? How about adding another hunk to this relationship?"

"Only if we get to add a lady too," Dakota's dad shot back, and I bit my lip to keep from joining Ryk in rolling around on the floor. The poor guy was on his back, clutching at his stomach, his face flushed as red as his hair.

"Deal, but only if you play with the hunk too," Dakota's mom shot back.

"Please stop talking. Please!" Dakota begged, burying his face into his palms. His ears were bright pink, and I reached out to brush my finger against the tip of the closest one. A flustered Dakota was absolutely adorable.

"Okay, okay, let's stop now. Our poor son will need therapy if we keep going," Dakota's dad said, and Dakota glared up at them from behind his hands.

"I'm happy you guys support my relationship, but if you don't cut it out, I'm gonna leave," he threatened, though I didn't think he meant it. He was too much of a softie to threaten his mom like that.

"Okay, fine. I'll behave. But you better promise to come over for dinner at least once a week," she said, and Dakota glanced over at me. I shrugged, happy to come along if I was invited. I liked Dakota's parents, and their home and cooking. Nico and Ryk also seemed completely onboard with the plan, so Dakota relented.

"Fine. But no poly jokes, and no more talking about your sex life," Dakota ordered, and his mom smiled.

"Deal. Now let's start the game so I can wipe the floor with you," she said, placing the Monopoly box in the middle.

"Oh, we'll see who wipes the floor with who," Dakota said, narrowing his eyes at his mom. Lord, they were so fucking similar. The only noticeable difference between them was that Dakota was more level-headed, like his father.

We played for hours, though the real competition always seemed to be between Dakota and his mom. Honestly, I truly enjoyed watching Dakota with his family. This house he'd grown up in was full of warmth and so very comfortable. I was glad my mate had grown up in a happy home like this, glad that his soul was as bright and joyful as it was.

By the time the game ended, I was falling asleep on Dakota's shoulder. Everybody knew how much I loved sleep, and I had gotten very little of it today despite the nap I'd taken earlier, so I felt like I would be asleep the moment my head hit the pillow.

Dakota's mom tried to convince us to stay the night, but fitting four men in Dakota's childhood room would be close to impossible, so Dakota declined the offer.

"Come on. In the car, everyone," Dakota said before wrapping his arm around my shoulders and leading me outside.

"Good night, Mom and Dad!" Ryk said as we stepped out of the house, and Dakota's parents wished us a good night, watching from the doorway as we headed to the car.

Dakota put me in the backseat, and I slumped over once Nico slid in beside me, resting my head on his shoulder.

I hummed softly when his fingers slid through my hair, and he gave a soft, amused huff.

"You really are a cat, aren't you?" he mused, and I decided not to reply, though I did push my head into his touch so he'd continue playing with my hair.

Ryk kept up a steady chatter the whole way home, and I closed my eyes, comforted by the familiar scents and voices of my mates.

"Star? We're home," Nico murmured, and I pulled myself upright with a yawn.

"Oh! We still need to combine the rooms," Ryk said, and I almost groaned out loud. I wanted to sleep, damn it.

"It's okay. It'll only take a minute," Nico said, and I wondered if he'd read my mind.

"No, I didn't read your mind," he replied, amusement in his tone.

"Shit. Was I talking out loud?" I asked, my cheeks heating up at the thought.

"Yep. You're adorable when you're sleepy," Ryk said as he opened the car door on my side, and I scowled at him as I got out.

Inside the house, it didn't take Nico and Ryk long to combine their rooms—since they were side by side—with the help of a little magic, though they decided to put off rearranging the furniture till tomorrow, thankfully.

"Wow, that was so quick," Dakota said, admiration strong in his voice. "If only we'd met before I renovated the whole place..." He trailed off, though the smile on his face said he was just joking.

"Okay, how about we get changed and sleep? Star looks like he's barely hanging on," Nico said, and I nodded in agreement.

I wasn't in the mood to walk back to my room, though, so I just used some magic to change my clothes, crawled onto the bed, wished everyone a good night, and conked out before my head hit the pillow.
