"Shuddup," I grumbled, and he laughed as he dragged me back to lie down.
We watched for a while after that, and when the sun set, Nico brought us cupcakes—that he said he woke up early to bake—and hot chocolate.
"Wait, there's something on this cupcake," Dakota said, and a wide smile spread across his face when he realized what it was.
Curious, I bit into mine, and glanced at it as I chewed, humming at the perfect sweet-with-a-tinge-of-bitterness taste. I could see faint letters written in icing, and I licked off some of the crumbs to reveal the full message.
I love you.
Trust Nico to execute a perfect, romance-book style confession.
"So you've been planning to tell us since this morning?" Dakota asked curiously, and Nico ducked his head with a nod.
"This is so cute! Very artistic too," Ryk admired, and Nico smiled up at him.
"I had to use a little magic to make the letters stay stable inside the cupcake, but I baked it properly," he said, and I hummed.
"It's delicious as ever," I assured him, and he smiled brighter than I'd ever seen him smile. Fuck, he was so beautiful.
"So," Ryk said once he'd finished his cupcake and licked his fingers clean like a gentleman, "the bottom line for today is that we all love each other very much, right?"
With a chuckle, I threw my arm around Ryk, pulling him into my side. "That's right. We all love each other very much, and we're going to have a hell of a time spending our lives together."
"I can't wait to try all kinds of new recipes," Nico said.
"And I can't wait to eat them," Dakota said with a smile. Then he bit his lip. "I've been thinking about what you said this morning, Ryk."
"About leaving your job?" Nico asked as I covered Ryk's mouth before he could say the words 'sugar baby.'
"Yeah. I think it's a good idea. I don't really enjoy my job, and I'd love the opportunity to find one I can actually enjoy. Are you sure you don't mind?" Dakota asked, and Ryk took his hand.
"Dakota, nothing would make us happier than being able to support you while you search for your dream," he said, and I nodded.
"What he said. I mean, what's the point of having three demon mates if you're not going to take the advantage we freely want to provide?" I said, and Dakota chuckled.
"I suppose you're right. I'll give my two-weeks' notice tomorrow, then," he said, and Ryk frowned.
"Does that mean you'll have to go to work for two more weeks?" he asked with a pout, and Dakota shook his head.
"I have some vacation time saved, so I won't have to go back except on Monday."
"That's great," Nico said, and I nodded in agreement.
"This is awesome! We're going to have so much fun! We'll go on adventures, see the world, do all kinds of fun things," Ryk said excitedly, and Dakota grinned.
"That does sound pretty fun. I can't wait!"
Ryk looked like he was about to vibrate out of his skin, so I pulled him into a kiss to focus all that energy. He gave a soft "Mmph" before wrapping his arms around me and kissing me back, and I bit his lower lip as I kissed him, making him gasp and give me the chance to slide my tongue into his mouth.
I had a feeling we'd be sharing many more kisses like this in the future. Not just Ryk and I, but Nico and Dakota as well, in all kinds of fun combinations. I couldn't wait to experience all of it, and I looked forward to every single day I'd get to spend with my three wonderful mates.
