“Go back to high school,” I shout before turning my attention back to my phone as my realtor laughs hysterically.

“That’s quite an offer,” she says. “Anyway, Drake is working late, and I could go for those nachos you turned me onto last time. Shall we meet at Mean Mug for a quick bite? I’ll show you the photos of the two pocket listings I have for you…”

“Yes. Let’s do it. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

I pass my building and make my way around the corner to find Sabrina standing outside.

“Hey, thanks for meeting.” She kisses my cheek and I hold the door open for her.

The place is buzzing, music jamming, and I scan the area for a table, just as three familiar faces come walking in my direction.

Vagina examination, my ass.

I try not to be pissed because she is clearly tired of hanging out with me and too nice to say it. She got a better offer. I get it now. I’ve never been so glad to have rebounded with plans of my own. Even if it’s just business, Mazie doesn’t know it. I’m thankful that I don’t look like a pathetic pussy sitting home moping that she canceled on me.

Which is what would have happened if Sabrina hadn’t called.

“Hey,” Emma purrs as her eyes scan Sabrina from head to toe.

My realtor is gorgeous with her long blonde hair and dimples. I don’t miss the way Mazie’s eyes double in size as she takes her in before Emma clears her throat and speaks. “What are you doing here?”

“Just grabbing a bite,” I say as my gaze locks with Mazie. “How did the vagina check out?”

Did I just hiss?

Clearly, I did, because everyone startles, and Mya covers her mouth with her hand to keep from laughing.

“I, um, it was all good. Very fast. And it looks like we both made new plans quickly,” she says, raising a brow at me.

Are her eyes puffy? Has she been crying?

No. It’s not time to be a sappy bastard. Instead, I introduce Sabrina and watch Mazie’s face flush. She looks like she wants to throat-punch me. How am I possibly the bad guy in this scenario?

She flaked on me.

Lied to me.

And I’m the asshole?

I don’t think so.

“Have a nice evening, ladies,” I say, but my gaze never leaves Mazie’s.

“Looks like yours is going great already. That didn’t take long.” She whips around, her hair hitting me in the face as she storms out the door.

Mya and Emma both smile before telling Sabrina that it was nice to meet her and following Mazie out of the bar.

“What’s the story there?” Sabrina asks as we take our seats at a high-top table. She’s done her share of trying to set me up with her friends, just like Mya and Emma have.

I tell her about the way Mazie and I met and everything in between, sans the sexy as fuck details, as I down a couple beers.

“Well, it sounds like she’s nervous about an office romance after what happened with her father.” She shrugs before popping a tater tot in her mouth.

“Or it’s an excuse because she isn’t into me. Maybe this is a one-sided thing.” I scrub a hand over the back of my neck.

“Um, I don’t think so. She just looked like she wanted to rip my eyes out when I met her. It’s definitely not a one-sided relationship.” She chuckles and I let out a long sigh.

“But what the fuck do I do about it? I’ve told her how I feel, and she’s made it clear we can’t cross the line. So, we tried the friendship thing, but obviously, even that is too much for her.”
