“That’d be my choice,” Wyatt said. “Sit out in front of the business they’re collecting from, wait until they show up and go into the place. When they come out, we pull out, and once we pull parallel to them, we slow down, open up the side door, and fill them full of lead.”

“Then close the door and take off before anyone knows what happened,” Griz said.

“Exactly. Give them a taste of their own medicine with this drive by shit. Ripper, you said there’s usually two guys on the pick up?”

“Yeah,” Ripper said.

“Let’s assume three to be on the safe side,” Wyatt said. “We’ll need one guy to drive the van, and figure one shooter each for the targets.”

“So four guys total for our group,” Griz said.

“Yeah. You and me, that’s two…”

“Hey, hey, hey. You’re not leaving me out here,” Devil said.

“Okay, Devil, you’re three,” Wyatt said. “Who’s four?”

“Why don’t you take that prospect?” Ripper said. “Devil, you said you were breaking him in.”

“He’s pretty new,” Devil said with a shrug, “I mean, this is kind of heavy for someone right out of the gate.”

“You said he was ex-military,” Ripper said. “This is the perfect chance for him to prove himself to us.”

“All right,” Devil said. “I’ll run it past him.”

“And I’ll pick my four and make the other hit happen,” Ripper said. “We do this right, guys, and we show these Death’s Head bastards who really rules these streets.”

“And get payback for my dad,” Griz said.

“And get payback for Boomer,” Ripper said.

It can’t happen soon enough, Griz thought.

“This is awful,” Becca said, hugging her arms around her chest. “This is so awful.”

She and her sister were at Kate’s house, sitting next to each other on the couch. Once they were sure that there wasn’t going to be any change in Boomer’s condition any time soon, and Griz and Wyatt had stormed out of the hospital with murder in their eyes, Becca needed to get someplace where she could decompress from the trauma of the attack.

“It’s not your fault, Becca,” Kate said.

“It is my fault, Kate. Boomer was trying to shield me, and that’s why he got shot. Those bullets should’ve hit me.”

“Don’t say that.”

“It’s true,” Becca said. “I felt him fall over top of me and then…”

She shuddered at the memory of it. Feeling trapped beneath Boomer’s weight, terrified at the sound of the gunfire, confused as to what was going on. The terror of mistakenly thinking for a moment that she’d been hit.

And then, the terrible realization that it was Boomer who had been shot.

“Try not to think about that,” Kate said. “He’s getting the best care possible.”

“I told you,” Becca said. “I said that I didn’t want anyone else getting hurt because of me, and now they have. And now Griz and Wyatt and the others want to go off and shoot up more people, and who knows who else is going to end up getting hurt?”

Kate put her arm around her sister. “It’s out of our hands, Becca.”

“How do you deal with this?” Becca said.
