“Fucking, right, Griz,” Ripper said. “So I’ve been preparing. And it’s a good thing I have.”

“I agree. So what have you got?” Griz said.

“Hang on, I want to know…”

“No, Wyatt,” Griz said, his voice getting uncharacteristically tight. “Ripper says he has a way to hit back, we hit back. They shot my dad and somebody has to fucking pay. Just as long as I’m the one doing the hitting.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way, Griz,” Ripper said. “I have two different places we can hit. Both are pretty soft targets, so I figure, we split up and hit them at the same time. Really give those fuckers a bloody nose before they even know what hit them.”

“That sounds good to me,” Griz said. “What are these targets?”

“Death’s Head does a lot of extortion down in the city. Squeezing local businesses for protection money.”

Griz nodded. “Sounds like something they’d do.”

“That means they have to collect on a regular basis. Go around and pick up the cash. I have two of the locations of businesses they are going to collect from in the next few days.”

“So we’ll know where they’re going to be,” Griz said. “At least some of them.”

“From what I understand,” Ripper said, “they send out two guys to collect. On the day in question, there will be two different groups of two guys, each out collecting from various businesses.”

“You’re thinking about ambushing them,” Wyatt said.

“Exactly,” Ripper said. “We roll deep, three or four guys per team, and hit them before they know what’s happening. Four dead Death’s Head, easy as that. I just have one condition.”

“Condition?” Griz said.

“I get to lead one of the teams.”

“Ripper?”

“Like I said, Griz,” Ripper said, “your old man and I had our differences. Everybody knows that. But he was still my brother and I respected the man.”

“Is your brother,” Griz said. “He’s not dead.”

“Right,” Ripper said. “Right, sorry. What I’m trying to say, Griz, is I got a lot of love for Boomer. He and I have been riding together since… well, since forever. I want payback.”

“We all want payback,” Griz said.

“So let’s get it. I take one group. Griz, you take the other. Blood for blood. Let’s get these fuckers.”

“Hell, yes,” Griz said.

He locked eyes with Wyatt, who still looked a little skeptical, but long experience between the two of them told Griz that Wyatt knew that Griz was going to move forward with this no matter what. After a second, Wyatt nodded.

“If what you say is correct, Ripper,” Wyatt said, “then this is an opportunity to hit them hard with a minimum of risk to our people.”

“All you have to do is not miss,” Ripper said.

“I won’t miss,” Griz said.

Wyatt nodded. “There are still a lot of details to work out. This isn’t going to be a walk in the park.”

“What are you thinking, Wyatt?” Griz asked.

“Well, we’re going to be deep in enemy territory, so we’re going to want to stay mobile. But still out of sight before we hit them, you know?”

“A van?” Griz said.
