“I know what platitude means,” Griz said.

“I…” Becca started to say, then paused. “I’m sorry, I’m just upset. My whole life has just ended.”

“No it hasn’t,” Griz said. “It’s just changed. You’re still alive. You can do anything you want.”

Oh, great, wisdom from the giant Wookie, she thought, but said, “Griz…”

“He is right, Becks,” Kate said. “Right now, everything seems like an avalanche, but give yourself a little bit of time. Stay here, chill out, let the shock of the situation wear off. Then you’ll start to see things a little more clearly once you’re not freaked out, and make some good decisions about what to do next.”

Becca sighed. She was just starting to really get into her self-pitying rant and sort of enjoying it, and now everyone was giving her good advice and ruining it.

“You’re right,” she said. “Of course you’re right. You’re always right. Thanks, Katie. I really do appreciate all this. Letting me stay here while I figure everything out.”

“Of course,” Kate said.

“Now let’s please talk about something else. What has been going on around here? That crazy lizard queen Linda hasn’t been causing trouble, has she?”

“No, she’s been quiet,” Kate said. “She’s in prison, remember?”

“Oh, right,” Becca said.

“We have had to deal with some rival groups trying to push in on our territory lately,” Griz said.

“Griz, I’m sure she doesn’t want to hear about that,” Wyatt said.

“No, it’s good,” Becca said. “Something other than my drama is exactly what I need right now. God. It’s not those Skull Faces guys, is it?”

“Death’s Head,” Griz said.

“Right,” Becca said. “Those guys. Those are the ones that came after me and Kate in that alley.”

“Yeah, it’s them,” he said.

“Seriously?” Becca said. “God, those guys are like herpes. You never get rid of them.”

“Yeah,” Wyatt said, and began to keep talking, but Becca didn’t hear much of it, because she’d been distracted by something she saw out of the corner of her eye.

It was Griz. He stood up from his chair to go get a beer from the kitchen, and as he did, he hitched at his belt with his hands. The movement at the edge of her vision reflexively drew her eyes down towards his jeans where…

Wait, she thought. That can’t be right.

She could’ve sworn she saw a crease or a fold in his jeans where a crease or a fold should not be. On his inner thigh. Near his pocket, but not quite there.

That is not his dick bulge, she thought. It can’t be.

She had to look away quickly, though, before she got a good enough look to confirm her suspicions, otherwise, Chewie might catch her checking out his man bulge and get the wrong idea. It wasn’t like she was interested, it just didn’t look right. Her eyes had to have been tricking her.

Or maybe he keeps a bratwurst in his pocket, she thought.

Kate was talking now, trying to say many supportive things all in a row, but Becca didn’t hear any of it. She waited until Griz returned to the room and then kept trying to look out of the corner of her eye at his crotch to see if she could confirm or deny her enormous penis suspicions.

It was simply a mystery that had to be solved. If she had gotten a full, decent, definitive glimpse that had told her one hundred percent that Griz was hauling a serious trouser snake, then that would’ve been it and she could’ve moved on. A statistically odd detail about someone in the room. Nothing more than that.

But the problem was, she wasn’t sure. She hadn’t gotten that good look, that definitive answer, and now the curiosity over the whole thing was driving her nuts.

“Becca?” Kate said.

Becca jumped a little, startled, pulling her eyes back into her head. “Hmm?”
