“No worries, I’ve got it,” he said, turning the cold tap on.
Once he was satisfied the temperature was acceptable, he turned and came to me over by the sink.
As he looked me over in just my boxers, I saw a spark of sexual interest, arousal there in his enchanting green eyes. But he blinked it away quickly, acting as though it had never occurred.
He thought I needed him to.
He thought I was… jumpy… about it.
I guess I was.
A growl rumbled in my throat as I acknowledged it.
And, worse, the fact that Sam and Carson had caused it in me.
“It’s all right,” Jonah said. “It’s only been a few days since you left that place. Just give it some time first.”
“I just need to take a shower. I can still feel it all on me. Tasted it on me, too, earlier.” He followed my gaze to the sink where I’d left my toothbrush after I’d used half a tube of toothpaste until I’d felt I’d erased that urine, cum, and blood from my tastebuds.
“Asher, I scrubbed everything clean from you while you were asleep. Caleb helped with the sanitizing as well. He was concerned you’d suffer from infection. I can promise you, there’s nothing remaining of it on you.”
“It feels like there is,” I ground out.
“All right, okay, then let’s help you take that shower.”
He stripped off his jacket in preparation, his biceps rippling, and a wisp of desire betook me.
But it was gone in the next second, ripped away from me.
I grunted.
He went to open his jeans, but stopped as he looked at me.
It was then that I realized I was shaking and my fists were now clenched. Weakly clenched, but still clenched.
I caught my reflection in the mirror and saw what looked like a mixture of horror and terror.
“Fuck, I don’t know why—”
“I get it.” He took a careful step toward me. “Let me get these off you, yeah? Are you gonna be okay with that?”
“Yeah. Of course.”
He didn’t believe me, his face said it all.
I didn’t believe me either.
It wasn’t true.
But I needed it to be.
I couldn’t be… this.
Weak.
Jumpy.
A fucking victim.
