Callie’s head reared back. “Um … what?”

“Two other partners. That’s it. That’s all. I never had complaints, but I find that men don’t listen to women all that much, and so women choose not to complain.”

“True dat!” and “Amen!” and “Preach it, Liam,” came from inside of Meg and Callie’s room.

Callie’s eyebrows raised, and she mouthed, “What the…” She swiped the keycard over the reader and opened the door wide.

Liam glanced around the corner. “Hey, Paul, Jonathan … Meg. How much of that did you hear?”

“The door’s not soundproof, unlike the movie theatre, Liam.” Paul smirked.

Liam moved from the doorway and lowered his voice. “Can we please go into my room and talk about this?”

“Go talk it out, Callie,” Meg yelled from inside the room. “Give her a good tongue-lashing, Liam.”

The guys in the room burst out laughing.

“Shut up and stop drinking tequila!” Callie glared at all three like they should spontaneously combust.

The three of them bounced shot glasses off the small wooden table. “Tequila!” And threw the drinks back, followed by limes, smiling with the citrus fruit in their teeth.

“People, we’ll have to leave within twenty-four hours of being called. Get your shit together.” Callie slammed the door. “Fine, let’s talk in your room.” She kept mumbling about her staff under her breath.

Liam opened the door and walked in backward. “I wasn’t trying to take advantage of you.”

“Liam, give me a break. I’m the one who undressed in front of you. I was caught up in the moment and forgot you knew Trent. Not that I wouldn’t have told you. I just shouldn’t have blurted it out while my hand was wrapped around your cock.”

“I just wasn’t expecting to hear you say his name.” The news had hit him hard. Callie was sexy as hell, and he wanted her badly. Whatever happened between her and Trent was between adults. But of all people, why did it have to be Trent? No one owned Callie, and Trent didn’t taint her. It was just his pride getting in the way. He certainly wasn’t going to let Trent take away what he and Callie had together away.

Stepping closer, he slid his fingers into her hair behind her neck. “I don’t think I’ve ever been that hard. You do something to me, I’ve never experienced.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake, please stop. I don’t want to hear about you having or not having sex,” a voice bellowed out. The brother he hadn’t seen in five years stepped from the hallway. “I was going to surprise you, Liam, but you’re the one full of surprises.”

He’s alive...

Callie

She backed toward the door when a man in grey board shorts and a blue chambray Baja hoodie crept around the corner, holding out his hand.

“Hi. I’m Sam.” He wasn’t the spitting image of Liam, but it was clear they were brothers by their blue eyes and matching dimples when they smiled.

After making sure her robe was sufficiently pulled shut, she shook his hand. She lightened her shake remembering how her father was sensitive to pressure. “Callie Laurel. Nice to meet you, Sam. I’m gonna go and let you two catch up.”

Sam crossed his arms. “You don’t have to do that, Callie. I was going to go take a nap after letting this guy know I’m here.”

“Like hell you are.” Liam wrapped his arms around his brother and dragged him in for a long hug. “God, it’s good to see you, Sam.”

Sam had a bigger smile than Liam’s, which was hard to believe since Callie thought Liam’s seemed to stretch from ear-to-ear. “Good to see you, too, bro.”

“I’m gonna go check the airport and see if we can get out tomorrow morning, gentlemen.” She backed slowly to the door.

Liam followed her. “Callie…”

She lowered her voice. “No worries, Liam. If it were meant to be it would’ve happened. We’re all good.”

Inside, the slow burn of disappointment took over. Callie didn’t want to know more or hear excuses or put herself out there again. The rollercoaster of the day exhausted her. She’d get them home safely and go back to Denver without another thought.
