“Why don’t you change it if you feel that strongly?” Bailey asked.

Pheobe grinned. “She can’t. It was our grandmother’s name. Freyja doesn’t want to risk the chance of grandmother haunting her.”

“Because she will,” Athena muttered, walking past everyone to greet her father.

“Where is my new daughter?” Stevie asked, looking around the room. When her eyes landed on Claudia and widened, I shifted myself in front of her. There was no fucking way Stevie was going to do whatever mojo she had up her sleeve to make my dream girl fall in love with Scribe.

Fucker already had a bevy of admirers fawning over him.

Claudia was mine.

“This is Claudia. Not Henley.” I firmly stated.

“And the baby?”

“My great-grandson.”

There, standing in the doorway, in all her glory, was my granny.

All five foot two inches of stern determination and resolve.

“Granny, I can explain,” I muttered while she paced around King’s office with Charlie in her arms, glaring occasionally at me and Claudia. However, my granny wasn’t listening to anything either of us said. We’d tried for the last thirty minutes to explain how Claudia came to be Charlie’s mom, but Granny wasn’t having it. All she cared about was the baby in her arms who smiled happily, cooing at the older woman as if she were his fairy godmother.

“Frank, do something,” Claudia whispered.

“I’m trying. She isn’t listening.”

“That’s my baby.”

“And my great-grandchild,” my granny stated firmly. “What is his name?”

Claudia looked up at me, her eyes pleading with me to say something.

Gulping, I said, “Charlie. His name is Charlie.”

“Thank you for that,” Granny smiled, looking at Claudia. “For naming him Charles after my husband. Franklin’s grandfather was a great man. An honorable man. Charles would be so proud to know Franklin gave him his name.”

Claudia squeezed my biceps hard, her nails digging into my skin as she growled her displeasure while glaring at me.

Grimacing, I cleared my throat. “Uh, Granny. Charlie isn’t...”

“But he could be.”

“Huh?”

“What?”

“I’m not senile. I know about genetics and biology. I also know that neither of you are in a relationship. More importantly, neither of you are getting any younger. My great-grandson has a willing mom, but what he really needs is a dad. Why not my Franklin? He’s a smart boy. Strong and virile. He could make you a good husband, Claudia.”

“WHOA!” Claudia yelled, jumping to her feet.

“Granny, Claudia doesn’t like me like that.”

“Why?” My grandmother rounded on Claudia. “What’s wrong with my grandson?”

Claudia sighed. “Nothing. Nothing at all. He’s great. We’ve been friends for years.”

“So, what’s the problem then?”
