“And you are?”

“Martha Steiner. Grandmother to George and Franklin Steiner, and great-grandmother to Charles Steiner. Now about my great-grandson’s birth mother,” my granny challenged, as she marched right up to the dais.

Walking into the hospital with Scribe, we rushed upstairs to the ICU to find our brothers and some of the women milling around.

Something was wrong. I could see it on everyone’s faces.

Looking to King, who held a crying Lacey in his arms, I waited for him to tell me the worst.

Seeing me, Lacey cried, “He coded before they could get him into surgery. Jessica had to straddle him while she pumped his chest to keep his heart beating. It was horrible.”

“We have to believe he will make it,” King whispered, but I could hear the lie as he looked at me.

He knew what we all knew.

Trip wasn’t wearing his helmet.

There wasn’t much else to say.

That was enough.

We all knew what could happen.

We all heard horror stories of fellow brothers who rode without helmets.

The outcome wasn’t good.

Hours later, the waiting room was full of brothers, wives, family, and friends. We all waited to hear news of our brother. The longer we waited, the more worried I became. I couldn’t imagine the clubhouse without Trip and his brand of crazy. The brother was so full of life, eager and ready to do anything. The adrenaline junkie of the group. We all knew that if something stupid was happening, Trip was generally behind the idea.

“I need some good news. What happened in court?” King asked, taking a seat next to me.

“Charlie is ours. Judge approved the adoption.”

“That’s great, Frank.” King smiled, slapping my back as I grinned.

“Yeah, it is.”

“And Fiona?”

I smirked, looking at my prez. “Well, if Granny has any say, Fiona will be around for a long time.”

“What’s that mean?”

“Granny wants custody of Fiona.”

King laughed loudly, gaining the attention of everyone in the room. Standing up, he faced everyone and announced, “Got some good news, folks, and let’s face it, after the last few weeks, we really need some. Frank and Claudia are the proud parents of a bouncing baby boy!”

Squeals of joy and congratulations surrounded me as everyone celebrated my good fortune.

“And it looks like Fiona will officially be a little sister of the Sons of Hell.”

“What?”

“No way!”

“Seriously?”

“How?”
