Shay glanced around at his fellow pack members. “Just what my father said. I’m going to come down here three times a week to provide you with mandatory therapy. We’ll get to the root of why you felt the need to come and destroy our buildings.”

He shrugged. “That was just a bit of fun. There. No therapy needed.”

She raised one spectacular eyebrow. “I very much doubt that.” Her smile was knowing, and a little mischievous, when she replied, “But don’t worry, I can handle you.”

He watched her walk away. I bet you can, little miss. I bet you can.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Holding a bottle of white wine and peering into the multi-paned glass window, Vivian knocked on the green door.

“Hey, lovely,” Rafe greeted her. He glanced around. “Everything okay?”

“Yep.” She held up the bottle. “But I think I owe you one.”

He smiled. “Come on in.”

She followed him into the kitchen, where he pulled two wine glasses from a cupboard. “You going to get in trouble when your dad finds out you bought a bottle?”

It had happened once before, when she’d gone to the liquor store for her mother. Luckily, when her dad realized it wasn’t for her and she wasn’t going to become Thatcher’s next party floozy, he relaxed. Of course, then she started getting lists from him for her liquor store runs as well.

“No. Besides, I grabbed it from Mom’s stash.”

Rafe chuckled. “When she finds out?”

Vivian shrugged and passed him the bottle. “I’ll tell her she must have drank it.”

Her mother often drank bottles and didn’t realize it. Maybe it was horrible of Vivian to take advantage of her mother’s problem, but trying to get her mom to stop had never worked.

“You naughty little thing.”

“I’m keeping my fated mate a secret from my parents. One missing bottle of white is the least of my worries.”

Rafe snorted. “True.”

As he poured the glasses, Vivian told him, “It’s not as good as the one you normally get for us, but I have to pick up what’s on Mom’s list. If I deviate, they’ll know.”

“Your secret is safe with me.”

“You keep all my secrets.” Vivian took the glass he offered her. “I wish you’d tell me some of yours.”

“I have no secrets.”

Vivian laughed. “Yeah. Right!”

“Innocent as a choirboy.”

“Fine, keep your secrets.”

They got comfortable in his living room, him in his faded cozy chair, her with a foot tucked beneath her on the couch.

“How are things going with your mate?”

She blushed.

Rafe smirked. “That good, huh?”

“He’s so much more than I could have ever envisioned for myself.”
