I cast him a teasing glare and turned the phone back to face me. "I just want to make a good impression."

"Just be yourself and they will love you as much as I do." He smiled gently. "I arranged for a car to pick up the girls first. They should be there very soon. I thought that it might help calm your nerves if your first meeting was on your turf."

"That's so sweet. Thank you."

“I only ever want to make you happy.”

The doorbell chimed and my nerves caused a hundred butterflies to flutter in my stomach. I wasn’t sure why I was so nervous. They were just Stefano’s friends. It wasn’t like I was meeting his family or anything.

“That must be them.” I grabbed my purse and blew a kiss at Stefano. “I’ll call you in the morning to let you know how things went.”

“Alright, amore mio, have a good time.”

“That’s the plan.”

I ended the call and anxiously hurried down the stairs to the entryway. I nodded to the housekeeper who opened the door just as three women climbed the front steps.

All three of them were very pretty. All appeared to be around my age and dressed to kill in their micro minis and slinky cocktail dresses, ready for a night out on the town.

The prettiest of the three caught my attention with her professionally applied makeup, salon styled hair, and commanding presence. I didn’t miss the fact that she walked a small step in front of the other girls as if their subconscious wouldn’t let them match her step.

I prided myself on my own self-confidence, but there was something about the cockiness of her smile that left me feeling slightly intimidated.

“You must be Mirabella. I’m Giulietta. Stefano has told me so much about you, but you are even lovelier than he said.” Her voice was the perfect balance of elegance and cheerfulness as she took both of my hands in hers and leaned in to kiss both of my cheeks.

I returned the gesture before smiling brightly at her. “Ciao. It’s so good to finally meet you. And please, call me Mira. Everyone does.”

“Of course, Mira. I just know that we are going to be the best of friends. This is Francesca and Alessia.”

“It’s nice to meet you both.”

“Same.” “Likewise.” The two girls replied at the same time.

They didn’t seem very chatty, but Giulietta had enough to say for all three of them. “Stef mentioned that you were in need of a girls’ night, so I hope you are ready because we have been cooped up for way too long at my parents’ stuffy social clubs all week. We could really use a night to blow off steam.”

“That sounds like just what I need.”

“Good. Then, let's get going. We have a VIP table reserved at il Martini Sporco.”

“Sounds great.”

“And don’t worry, we’ll have you back by morning.”

I laughed nervously just before Giulietta grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the door with the other girls.

We all piled into the limo that Stefano had sent. As soon as the four of us were inside, Giulietta pulled out a bottle of champagne and passed out glasses for each of us. “Alright ladies, a toast to new friendships and blowing off steam.”

We all toasted, and I took a large gulp to help me relax. While I enjoyed partying, I was used to being the ringleader with my friends and there was something about Giulietta that made me nervous.

The party was already in full swing when we arrived at the club. A long line wound its way around the front of the building, but Giulietta walked straight to the front.

“Ciao, handsome. You’re going to let me and my friends here inside, right?” She stood a little too close to the doorman and ran a finger down his chest as she spoke.

“Sure. Why not.” He flashed her a lascivious gaze before moving the velvet rope and allowing us inside.

“Does that always work for you?”

“Not always.”
